Didn't they make a Doom movie?
I think I read somewhere that District 9 was meant to be based on the video game Halo, but something happened and they changed direction.
I thought it was going to be a terrible movie, but it was surprisingly okay.

id didn't make the doom movie, they just sold the license. District 9 was based on a short film made by the director who also made a short film on Halo and was supposedly in line to make the Halo movie. I don't think D9 was supposed to be halo related, other than that they made it instead when the Halo project stalled. D9 was awesome, and all the more impressive if you consider how small it's budget was for the scale of the film.
Think of the FF7 movie. Made by SE, and I found it fantastic. Compare that to Doom Farcry alone in the dark, house of the dead, dead or alive, the list goes on. These were made far removed from their original creators.
I would go see a Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo film if it was made by blizzard or at least they were heavily involved in the project. There's nothing wrong with a movie being entirely CG. Pixar repeatedly show us how you can make engaging characters that aren't real actors. I'd rather they not try to make it look 'real' and go for a fantastic animated art style like they routinely demonstrate in their cut scenes. We should have the game studios more involved in making the films if we want decent video game movies. Gabe Newell has wanted to make a half life movie for ages but has never had someone present a concept/script that he felt would do the game justice, valve even tried to write one.
