Bertle 3rd November 2011 2:46 PM

I read many peoples thoughts on the "always online" or the "Real Money auction house" topics which to me neither are important in the slightest. So I am just wondering, am I the only one that is confused/concerned by the following game changes from D2 : (I may well be wrong in some/all of the below, please feel free to ease my concerns)
1) No stat points, eg no strength, dex, etc as its now auto assigned. This means you can wear any equipment now that could be handed down from higher level characters. eg In D2 you had to have certain strength to wear the amazing armour so for a few levels you could CHOOSE whether to put points in str or not.

2) No skill tree or ability to save skills up to unlock higher skills as you can use them whenever you want. eg You dont have a choice to concentrate all power on fire or ice or poison or whatever. What is the point of levelling except to get better equipment drops with higher level monsters ?

3) Being able to re-assign skills whenever you want so when you come to a boss that might be immune to fire/physical you can reassign to skills that suit the need.

4) No mana globe to worry about running out except for wizard so you can just keep spamming whatever skill without waiting for it to fill up or taking a mana potion.

5) Minimal potions drop in game so you cant keep drinking health/rejuv any more when fighting bosses but you get health orbs drop only when you kill the bosses minions. It wont keep you alive if you are just fighting the bosses with no minions.

6) Is there any point in having more than 1 character of the same class as you can change equipment anytime from a shared chest and re-assign skills ?

7) is it still randomly generated maps, I have only seen about 4 beta vids but they all seem to be the same map/dungeon layout.

8) Is those beta vids, I didnt see any character except the demon hunter using bows, can you, for instance, choose to equip a barbarian with a bow (not that you really would) but is there the freedom to still do that or is the barabrian only limited to big heavy swords/axes ?

ps, sorry for the big post, just hoping to get some explanations

It sounds like this is to avoid the crazier and broken builds that could be made in Diablo 2. It makes it a bit more newb friendly, and easier to balance for PvP. Looks like Blizzard is making a play for more organised tournaments.

I was a bit apprehensive about the skill trees at first, but the new system seems okay. Pick some abilities (unlocked at certain levels) and apply modifiers to make your build a bit more unique.

3) Being able to re-assign skills whenever you want so when you come to a boss that might be immune to fire/physical you can reassign to skills that suit the need.

Oh hells yes. The days of being useless for an entire act are over!

4) No mana globe to worry about running out except for wizard so you can just keep spamming whatever skill without waiting for it to fill up or taking a mana potion.

Each of the classes have a different resource system. None of them will allow you to just spam the one skill effectively.

5) Minimal potions drop in game so you cant keep drinking health/rejuv any more when fighting bosses but you get health orbs drop only when you kill the bosses minions. It wont keep you alive if you are just fighting the bosses with no minions.

Seems like it's balanced out with a more gradual damage system. Spamming health pots to keep up with massive hits wasn't much fun.

6) Is there any point in having more than 1 character of the same class as you can change equipment anytime from a shared chest and re-assign skills ?

Probably not, unless you really can't be bothered respeccing/regearing your characters all the time.

7) is it still randomly generated maps, I have only seen about 4 beta vids but they all seem to be the same map/dungeon layout.

I recall hearing some are random, some are fixed. Hopefully mostly random excepting the last level of a dungeon, like Diablo 2.

8) Is those beta vids, I didnt see any character except the demon hunter using bows, can you, for instance, choose to equip a barbarian with a bow (not that you really would) but is there the freedom to still do that or is the barabrian only limited to big heavy swords/axes ?

Probably not. They wouldn't have the abilities to use a bow properly. They'll probably let a barbarian choose between dual-wielding 1handers and using 2handers, and other differences for different classes.

Just a note for everyone, the Beta patch is imminent, so for those not currently in beta your chances of being invited are about to increase dramatically as there will be a lot of invites after this patch.

Apparantly that isnt the case. You can play on any region, but only earn money through RMAH in the region you set your address to?

anyhow thats the reason why i preordered via amazon :D

Nope. There were a couple of interviews where pvp was brought up, and it was flat out stated that PvP was a minor addition, and that nothing in PvE would be compromised for the sake of pvp. In fact, one (I believe it was a producer) even went so far as to say he wished there was no pvp :p

Autti 4th November 2011 6:47 PM

patch is out
full list here for anyone interested

Expect beta invites to ramp up in the next couple of days

next couple of days. They have to wait until the patch has been run for at least a day or two, they won't stress the client download and server influx at the same times.

For those interested the DH plays a lot better now.

Also the AoE nerf makes things more challenging

Things appear harder for Wizard and WD, but when you get a nice weapon as all damage is based of weapon damage it goes straight back to the difficulty it use to be.

jET_M@X 5th November 2011 12:14 AM

Is the DH actually viable in early levels now?
Thought the word on DH was that it was pretty underpowered
early levels ( up to 13 on the beta)

Randy_Chuggs 5th November 2011 12:23 AM

Is the Beta still only the first act?

mofohobo 5th November 2011 10:37 AM

I believe it is… :(
