We going to have to put up with weekly maintenance during peak times ala WoW for this game?

Well with SC2, when a region of Battle.net goes down for maintenance it's just that region, e.g. NA goes down, but Oceania still up.

So I'm guessing we'll have similar regions but does that mean the auction house will be shared amongst an entire realm? At first I thought that might mess with the AH if but I guess it'd just scale up right?

Hmm, that does raise some interesting points. Perhaps there will be a separate AH on each region, which will determine which region has the most botters or not :D . I think they might realise having to take down the whole AH just for a region to go down will be impractical, in keeping with the 'real world' trading aspect.

Not sure mate I'm just making wild guesses.
Could be like WoW's system though, separate AH for separate realm.
Again, no real idea here :P

This isn't even the main problem though.

Have 3G? Can't play diablo 3 smoothly

Use shared Internet? Can't play Diablo 3 smoothly

At a LAN party etc? Can't play Diablo 3 smoothly

The only thing you can do if you are at home is set up QoS.

Perhaps they will put it some magic tricks into the final game, but at the moment the game has 10x more problems being online only then World of Warcraft does.

Thats because your being throttled. You can't run the game smoothly when more then half of the servers capacity is being dedicated to recording player data and the Off site monitoring of the beta. There's stuff in there that has been turned on whether your playing locally or online. I really dont get why people complain that a demo is not polished... I get it all the bloody time.

Be patient people, its not far off and it wont be flawless, but it will work.

P.s as far as I know Maintenance will be the same as SC 2.

You're muddling demos and betas. If a demo wasn't polished I would not touch the full game. There's no question about it, a demo absolutely should be polished, it's purpose is to demonstrate the release version of the game.

This is a beta test, not a demo, of course :) so almost by definition one should not be expect it to be polished, as you say, it's purpose being to find problems prior to release.

Even so... I'm not optimistic. It's not really a question of polish, it's a toxic design choice (mandatory use of remote hosts even for single player play.) So far the beta is exposing exactly the result you'd expect from that - lag spikes and the like, even in single player play, for at least some people. No amount of polish can fix the fact you're playing on Blizzard's servers not on your local PC.

I can tell you now that the lag will be signifcantly reduced. Maybe not on luanch as there will be a heavy shock load on the servers, but it should stablise to a more playable status. Like I said before the beta is being throttled. My build is not throttled and I direct connect to those servers and get about the same sort of lag you would with playing wow on BlizzNA servers. Having said that I doubt Aus will have to deal with that.

Unfortunately I agree with the remote host direction but thats more of a general game market trend. I mean have you noticed how many AAA's are doing this these days. Its rediculious, just another chance to divide the populus. People who can afford the crazy speed ISP's are going to have a huge advantage.

The whole choppy feeling that everyone gets is because of something we use when QA'n. "Marker's" are added to essentially "screen cap" positions we beleive low end systems may crash dump. Also works to show us what high end systems can achieve on the servers.

Anyway having said that I've finished with D3. The other teams are about to as well, which means if all is well and D3 follows the SC2 rollout, you'll be seeing it sooner rather tha later. Unless they change their mind again... which happens alot but I've got my fingers crossed!

jET_M@X 19th January 2012 2:40 AM

I dunno... Blizz haven't even announced a release date for the next SC2 expansion and I thought that was going to come out first.

maxwolfie 19th January 2012 8:16 AM

Play Path of Exile in the meantime, and, if D3 sucks, continue to do so. PoE is looking like what D3 should be anyways.

Just got an email from a mate about changes in the next patch!

Quote:

Alright the short list is...
Scrolls of Identification are gone - players can now identify rares/legendary items without them.
Button '5' is now dedicated to potions.
The Mystic artisan has now been removed from the game.
The Cauldron of Jordan and Nephalem Cube have been removed.
The Stone of Recall is now a button at the bottom and has been renamed "Town Portal".
The Blacksmith is now responsible for salvaging players' items.
Common (white colored) items are no longer salvageable.
Character Attributes have been changed. See below for details.
Character stats are now placed in the same place as the inventory panel and the old dedicated stats panel has been removed.
By character attributes changing, they mean...
Strength
Increases Barbarian damage
Increases Armor
Dexterity
Increases Demon Hunter damage
Increases Monk damage
Increases Dodge
Intellect
Increases Wizard and Witch Doctor damage
Increases Health gained from Health Globes
Vitality
Increases Max Health
And also...
We're dropping Defense, Attack, and Precision as attributes, Armor is taking over for what Defense used to provide, +Physical Resist will take over for Armor, and +Chance to Crit will fill in for Precision. Obviously these stat changes are one of the bigger systems changes we're currently working on as they have far reaching requirements to re-itemize and balance the game.

If this is true then we won't see D3 for quite some time!

Yeah they won't be hey. Not happy with some of those changes at all.

Salvaging sounds the worst, being able to do it in dungeon made it much faster. Going to have to port back now?

"We will remember if the game is great, not late."

No I think we will remember it as late as well as great.
Just like fucking Starcraft 2. (Although I'm not complaining too much about that)
