Can anyone speculate as to how D3 on a console will work with regards to online only?

IMO, console version will have offline mode. Which makes things interesting.

there have been a number of blue posts hinting at one. Not to mention the hiring of console devs to work on the project. (could have all been smoke and mirrors though)

There's no hint, it's coming

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ease-confirmed

The hint was also in the title of Blizzard's new name years ago, Blizzard-Activision. They can justify it how they like, but I don't think it'll work as well on consoles, not unless of course they decided a long time ago that it should work with gamepads and they then designed the game around that.

Half of the good stuff they've removed could have been for the console version, who knows, but it's a typical thing that happens for multiplatform titles. Simplified mechanics + controls.

Except Diablo 1 and Starcraft were released on Playstation and N64 respectively... This isn't Blizzard's first adventure into Console games, but it will likely be their best.

As for the online only on consoles, it won't be there... Hacking items on consoles will be damn near impossible, there also likely won't be an RMAH.

They were also their last ventures into consoles for both of those games

Like I said, if they wanted it to work well, sacrifices would have to be made, and IMO, they are

Agreed, they've made changes... whether they're "sacrifices" is yet to be determined but there are a lot of people that actually prefer to the changes because it allows players to go back and have fun and experiment with classes, rather than follow strict guidelines to form your character that you follow from level 1.

I've read a lot of opinion pieces from people who believe Blizzard has butchered everything that made Diablo great, but they then go on to realise that the changes aren't necessarily all bad.

Jim-podiatrist 7th May 2012 1:39 PM

This isnt D2, it's D3.
There are those people that resist change no matter which form it comes in. There seems to be a vocal minority on the d3 forums that want D2, with better graphics and a new story.

It's going to be fantastic judging by the little snipet that we were given in the BETA.

Don't forget those who defend any form of change because they have the standards of a house brick

purehybrid 7th May 2012 1:53 PM

I always thought Diablo would translate extremely well to consoles, with the only exception being the inventory management... but plenty of console rpg's have handled inventory decently, so I'm sure its doable.

Pretty much the two opposite ends of the spectrum, however I'd use the word 'embrace' not 'defend'.:lol:

Sure would be lovely if they pit consoles against PC for pvp, watch all the hardcore console fanboys cry when they get their asses whooped.

Didn't think blizzard would be stupid enough to follow in dungeons siege 3 steps, after such a major disappointment that has been.

Annihilator69 7th May 2012 2:36 PM

As long as they dumb down the console version and leave the PC version intact, I don't mind too much.

Similar to N64 version for Starcraft.

But it will be sad if the console version outsells the PC version and management go "Hey console version outsold PC 5:1, use console as dev and port to PC from now on"
