As they said in the crafting panel, nobody is going to be using skills without runes in them, so the skills not having an minor AoE isn't a problem because most likely a rune could implement it.
Also there wasn't a melee skill with the Demon Hunter shown yet (aside from normal attack).

To be honest, I didn't look at it as close as I should have (trying to a balance of not knowing to make it exciting and knowing so I'm "up to date"). If it is a normal attack, then obviously melee is going to be it's biggest weakness. That brings ranged classes to total of 3, melee 2. I wonder what the last melee class will be? (hope it's melee)

Although I can imagine as the game progresses and you reach those difficult mobs could be annoying just running dodging for ages and spamming ranged...
Especially speed enhanced, Magic immune... Duno if I'm keen for that kind of character. If they would have kept it as half demon type character which you could possibly spec to go nuts in certain situation and transform into a melee beast for a little while... For example have a skill that when you drop below 30% HP you morph some crazy demon claws and can hack at enemy's...
I keep leaning back towards plain ol Barbarian....

That idea reminds me of the Metamorphosis ability in WoW (Warlock - Demonology?). I think it would be appropriate for a DEMON hunter to actually turn into one (like you've been cursed by one and taken on it's ability). Most likely an upper tier skill to unlock, but still cool nonetheless.
And yes, the demonhunter is growing on me too, mostly due to the versatility I think.
