Obviously they won't admit their own faults.

On the other hand, those who got hacked are lazy shits.

I would bet most of those who got hacked have a smartphone, thus could of added an authenticator to their account for free.

Blizzard have already stated that not one account with an authenticator has been hacked.

There's been lots of people posting around the net who have been hacked despite having an authenticator attached. Regardless of whether you believe the Blizzard PR department or not you should err on the side of caution and avoid situations as described by the 'window lickers' as you put it. Believing the PR won't make your account more secure. I certainly won't be joining public games, or connecting to general chat because there is no tangible benefit to me doing so, but there is great risk if in the future either of those are identified as a source of the hacking (if there is actually hacking occuring).

Yeah, after the fact.

so they nerfed the wizard force armor trick huh?

damage dealt can no longer be greater than 100% of total life? yeah... awesome... that's a rune i'll totally pick!

before anyone has a cry: I never actually played the force armor trick. was going to do that last night but yeah. Ah well, back to my normal gear i go! :)

That's a bit of a cop out imo. Blizzard forced everybody to play online, decided to implement the real money auction house (and the in game money auction house for that matter), essentially inviting hackers. It's not like there have been a number of reports of say BF3 or call of duty accounts being hacked, even steam which I would assume is a prime target seems to be fairly hack free, not to mention non-gaming things like gmail or paypal.
There are a lot of things blizzard could be doing which they aren't. How hard is it to implement some safe guards, for example don't let a second connection occur if the player is already logged in, block attempts from international IP addresses without e-mail verification, for that matter block all connections for any new ip address without e-mail verification.
People shouldn't need to go to the trouble of getting an authenticator just to play a game, no other game or service seems to have this much of a problem with keyloggers.

Yeah, after the fact.

yet you know, even if you have had your details taken you still need your authenticator to login. Where the code changes every 30 seconds

Block and farm ALL the mobs.

edit: Doing it now on Act 4 Inferno, it works.

I'll add it to the other pile I have here of "ridiculous runes that no one would ever use"

2-step authentication like which the "authenticator" gives you isn't bulletproof, but its a damn sight better than any of the options on this list.

Personally they should look at implementing something like Steam Guard so at least if your account is compromised they cannot actually do anything without also having access to your email.

I just logged on today and realised I have no interest in playing this.

Well D3 was a lot shorter lived than D2 for me, I'll say that.

Also I find it funny that they fucked up the dungeon crawler so badly. In D2, you did boss runs. Pretty much anyone could do these as it wasn't that hard to hit a high enough level to do them. All bosses dropped pretty decent stuff and if they didn't, you just made a new game and spent the next 10 minutes re-running them. In D3, you need to get to Inferno first (which by Blizzard's admission only the best players will actually finish) before crawling is even worth it. I dunno, just kinda takes the fun out of it.

And even in inferno, if you happen to find a legendary it's gonna be worse than that blue you found a few days ago.
