So your telling me that the demon hunter can only use crossbows and no other weapon in the game??

Can he use swords? Or anything other than a crossbow? What happens in close combat?

2H & 1H crossbows, 2H bows, with a DH you don't need to get into close combat...

I shouldn't have started a barb as a first character. Now there's no motivation whatsoever to start another character cause barb is fully geared out for all acts in inferno.

Was a long and painful journey and 80m in gear afterwards its MEH... dont want to do that again

The demon hunter is skilled for primarily bows, crossbows and hand crossbows.... You could make a build that allows you to use a club, but frankly if you wanted to do that... play a different class.

There is no melee for the Demon Hunter... if they get close, you move back.

If you REALLY wanted to not use ranged weapons you could probably spec with Grenades and Impale for your primary and secondary, these are the only two I think that do not (read; should not) require a ranged weapon to perform. Sample spec

EDIT: my mistake, Chakram can also be used by a demon hunter without a ranged weapon... Definitly considering this as a fun challenge... Kinda like my 2 handed only Barbarian... 1 hits almost everything... kinda cheating that I'm gearing him from the AH, particularly with bonus experience gear... but oh well, he's great fun!


It's wierd like that, I've got a 60 DH, a 60 Monk and I've started my Barb, Wizard and WD. (barb is my favourite so far).. Currently (including the Beta) I've killed the skeleton king probably 50 times.... still not that sick of it :D

Pretty much cleared Act 3 with nearly 300mf on rare kills WITH my 15% additional item drop shout active... literally didn't get anything worth keeping, and only 1 or 2 items worth maybe 500k total on the AH.

I should have done a few more runs but honestly I can make so much more money so much easier on the AH I don't see the point in playing anymore...

MF doesn't affect the roll of the items.

Thats right, it only effects the quality of the item when it drops, for example more chance of a white being a blue, a blue being a yellow, a yellow being an orange.

Yes and with high magic find I should have been finding a lot more blues & yellows etc (which to be honest I was, especially with the 15% item drop active on large groups of mobs) which therefore increases the chances of getting something decent.

You can still use melee weapons it's just there's a bow special skill tied to your left mouse click (and maybe even right) and so even though you should still be able to use a sword or whatever he'll keep saying he can't attack because of the skill.

As other have said, once you hit higher levels you can disconnect it with appropriate non-bow skills but I think int he beginning it's a bow and that's it. In close combat he still uses the bows or there are specific skills to get away and kill from a distance.

The only legendary item I've found so far is actually a DH sword (Devil Tongue) but I've never actually tried it out. I even tried to do the "punch Diablo" achievement but once I was in there I found that the DH can't even punch, although thinking back it may be because of the skills I had selected.

Anyway, use a bow as a DH or all the advantages it has as a bow user are pointless, otherwise restart as a barbarian or monk if you want close-in fighting.

The game was just a RMAH trial for Titan. It's a shame they systematically ruined the Diablo franchise in the process.
