Diablo 3 General/Gameplay Discussion

After nearly a decade since Diablo 2 was released, Blizzard have finally announced Diablo 3! Yes, dreams DO come true!!

Firstly, some information from the conference thingy they're having in France:

Diablo III will be a fitting sequel to Diablo II, with the easy interface, fast-paced action, and visceral gameplay that Diablo players have come to expect and enjoy. It will also include many new features that will take the Diablo action-RPG experience to the next level.

Features:

* Five powerful character classes to choose from, including the barbarian and witch doctor
* Brand-new 3D graphics engine enhanced with spectacular visual effects and Havok physics
* Numerous indoor and outdoor areas detailing new regions in the world of Sanctuary
* Interactive environments with dangerous traps and obstacles, and destructible elements
* Randomly generated worlds bolstered by scripted events for endless and dynamic gameplay
* Vast assortment of fiendish monsters, with unique attack patterns and behaviors
* New quest system and character-customization options for the ultimate action RPG experience
* Multiplayer functionality over Battle.net with support for cooperative and competitive play

Here's the all-important FAQ!!

Diablo III will be a fitting sequel to Diablo II, with the easy interface, fast-paced action, and visceral gameplay that Diablo players have come to expect and enjoy. It will also include many new features that will take the Diablo action-RPG experience to the next level. We look forward to going into much more detail on our plans for Diablo III as development on the game progresses.

What’s new about Diablo III compared to the previous Diablo games?
Exciting new classes like the witch doctor bring new gameplay options to the table. Returning classes, like the barbarian, have been completely redone with new skills to give them a feel unique to Diablo III. New customization options will provide for an even greater level of character specialization than the previous Diablo games, allowing the player to create unique characters brimming with power.

Diablo III is powered by a new graphics engine that can display characters and hordes of monsters in lush, fully 3D environments. Powerful special-effects systems and Havok-powered physics allow the player to lay waste to Hell’s minions in spectacular ways.

Also, Diablo III builds on the random environments of the previous Diablo games by introducing a host of new ways to create random scripted events throughout the game. This creates a dense and exciting world alive with quests, NPCs, dynamic encounters, and viciously challenging new monsters and bosses. Diablo III’s environments add a great deal of interactivity to the game, including destructible elements and environmental obstacles that can be turned against your enemies.

In addition, Diablo III will benefit from Battle.net upgrades that will provide some exciting new features for players. Cooperative online play remains a primary focus, with multiple enhancements being planned to make connecting with your friends easier and cooperative gameplay even more fun. We’ll have more details on all these aspects as well as other exciting new features at a later date.

Can you give an overview of Diablo III’s storyline?
It has been twenty years since the events of Diablo II. Of those who faced the Lords of Hatred, Terror, and Destruction in the battle over the fate of Sanctuary, there are few still living who can bear to remember the horrors that the Prime Evils wrought upon the world. And of those who did not witness the terrible events firsthand, most believe the stories to be little more than myth. But something evil is stirring once again in Tristram, and it may already have claimed its first victim: Deckard Cain.

Will there be any other familiar faces in Diablo III (other than Deckard Cain)?
Yes. Players will encounter several new characters as well as a number of characters from the previous games.

Will players be visiting any familiar locations in Diablo III, such as Tristram?
Yes, definitely. Players will return to Tristram and certain other locations from the previous games, and they’ll be exploring new areas of Sanctuary as well.

How many character classes are included in Diablo III? What are they?
Five character classes will be included in the game, two of which, the barbarian and witch doctor, were revealed when the game was announced at the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational. The other classes will be announced at a later date.

Will players be able to choose the gender of their character, regardless of class?
Yes. Players will be able to create male and female characters for all five classes.

Will Diablo III be playable over Battle.net? What new features can we expect?
Yes, Diablo III will be playable over Battle.net, and Battle.net will offer some exciting new features to enhance players’ Diablo III experience. We’ll announce specifics and go into much more detail at a later date.

Will there be a single-player component in addition to multiplayer?
Yes. In addition to battling the hordes of Hell cooperatively with friends over Battle.net, players will be able to adventure through the world of Diablo III solo. More details on both the single-player and multiplayer experience will be revealed at a later date.

What will questing be like in Diablo III? Will it be similar to Diablo II?
Our plans for the story and quest mechanics are still under wraps. We’ll go into detail on those elements of the game at a later date. We can say, however, that we expect to have class-based quests in addition to the main story-line quests.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS
What engine is Diablo III running on? What graphical enhancements are included?
Diablo III runs on a custom 3D game engine for rendering full-3D characters and environments. The 3D game engine not only simulates advanced animation sequences and sound effects, but also uses a custom physics engine that allows for realistic object dynamics and cloth simulation.

What are the system requirements for Diablo III?
We’ll announce specific system requirements at a later date.

RELEASE PLANS
When will Diablo III be released?
It’s too early to estimate Diablo III’s release date. As with all Blizzard Entertainment games, our goal is to create a game that is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible. We intend to take as much time developing Diablo III as is necessary to ensure the game meets our own high expectations and those of our players.

Will the game be released in multiple countries? Will the release be simultaneous? Which countries and what languages will Diablo III be localized in?
As with all of our games, our goal with Diablo III is to release the game simultaneously in as many regions as possible, and to localize the game in several languages. We’ll have more details to share about countries, languages, and specific dates as we get closer to release.

Will Diablo III be available on Windows and Mac simultaneously?
Yes. As with all of Blizzard Entertainment’s recent releases, Diablo III will ship for both Windows and Mac simultaneously.

How much will Diablo III cost? Where can I buy this game?
Pricing and availability for Diablo III will be determined and announced closer to the release of the game.

So there's your FAQ as 28th June, the day of announcement. Although Blizzard haven't given firm details on the multiplayer aspect, since it's confirmed to be on Battle.net, you can pretty much bet on it being 100%, and thus not pay-to-play ala WoW.

That's nice, but this is a thread about D3.

spootmonkey 28th June 2008 10:45 PM

About fucking time. Also, I predict that this thread will remain intact, relevant and updated long enough for the contact section to see use.

Yes, and I was discussing how I liked games made by the same company and that I wasn't into previous versions.

Might try the new version. When I did try diablo at lan, it felt like mu online.

Coopz 28th June 2008 10:57 PM

Must be me but I found the Diable series extremly boring with little emphasis on skill, just click click click on something till it dies, walk to point 'a', click, walk across bridge click click ect.. no need to aim, duck or do anything clever, but the intro and FMV were stunning.

kini_mini 28th June 2008 10:57 PM

Well I just watched the gameplay trailer, seems like they've made good progress with the barbarian and witch doctor at least! Effects look great, should take the Diablo series forward in style.

I like the new map overlay too, the old style was a bit of a pain. The new version seems to assume more screen area though, native widescreen

Smoke87 28th June 2008 10:59 PM

Yeah it better require some hardcore strategy like WoW has evolved to demand ....

reaqwe 28th June 2008 11:00 PM

argh more magic find!!!

Ziedrich 28th June 2008 11:22 PM

They've just finished the developer panel for D3 at the invitational.
Going through the Q&A session now.

Looks like its still a long way to go. With "No comments" on the inventory systems, classes, resource system( all mana or like wow-ish, with energy for barbs)

Stream is here: http://eu.blizzard.com/wwi08/streams.xml

Draethz 28th June 2008 11:29 PM

Looks great, can't wait!

I speculate we won't be seeing it for a while though, Starcraft 2 next year and Diablo 3 in 2010 would be my guess.

Along with Warhammer towards the end of this year, its a good time for gamers everywhere!

mtw 28th June 2008 11:30 PM

MUST

MF

MORE!!!

Can't wait :D

Drunkmunky 28th June 2008 11:31 PM

I thought Blizzard announced that they were working on another mmo... So are they still doing that or is this what they were working on? Once again they do a wonderful job of keeping it a secret, I swear to god I nearly needed to change my boxers when I heard the news an hour ago :O

Kurosaki 28th June 2008 11:38 PM

I just want the cow level...... :Paranoid:

trickma 28th June 2008 11:51 PM

Diablo fucking 3, there is no substitute!

peteo 29th June 2008 12:00 AM

Ahh such awesome news :)

Yet now i have to spend the next months/years just wishing for it :(

But boy when it finally comes out, stock the fridge, Disconnect the phone, buy a 7 pack of underwear and stay locked in for some jizzing-good-gaming.

So I won't be the only one then? :) All hail the sexy goodness of Diablo 3!!!!! Woot :)

EDIT: Just watching the gameplay video now, notice the lack of stuff being dropped. no more "Everything carries and item and gold (WoW style)" Nice!

DeejW 29th June 2008 12:30 AM

The trailer actually gave me shivers down the spine. Its called cinematic trailer for a reason ;)

Sounder 29th June 2008 9:59 AM

Excellent cinematic trailer. First impressions of the gameplay trailer were a bit.... meh. Environments seemed a bit cartoonish (WoW'ish?) but I'm over that. A few minutes in and I reckon it looks pretty good. Love the destructable environment.

I'm a fan of this style of game and will definately be getting it.

RnR 29th June 2008 10:07 AM

Very tidy teaser movies from Blizzard. Can't wait!

gurner 29th June 2008 10:10 AM

All the ol' school gamers getting woodies with this news.

Great news!

bazz.

NismoR31 29th June 2008 10:30 AM

rarely do i get excited over games these days, but i wet my pants when i saw the gameplay vid on the website!

neostars 29th June 2008 10:42 AM

What made this game was the loot.
I wanna get my Godly gears listed in the For Sale section Now Blizzard. Haha

nexx 29th June 2008 10:43 AM

It looks fucking awesome so far and there's still a lot of development to go.

Playing Titan Quest, this is exactly what I thought D3 would be like. 3D environment allowing for new physics/effects/high res, but with a darker theme and much more polish.

Cant wait

*fires up Diablo2 again*

ominae 29th June 2008 10:47 AM

the wait for this is going to suck :/ even more so since i'm gettin over WOW :upset:

I just sat their with my mouth open like ooooooooooooooohh when watching the cinematic trailer. Should be sick as a banana tree!

ScrumpyJim 29th June 2008 2:09 PM

i'm sort of wondering if it'll work with vista x64. I dont have the disc anymore, but if i knew it worked. I'd grab another battle chest from JB or something. I loved diablo, even though I had like 3 bots going 24/7 by the time i quit.

Warpy 29th June 2008 2:16 PM

I have never played any of the Diablo series, do you think I need to catch up before I play this when it is released?

Maybe read some of the lore on the internet. The game itself would take WAY too long to get any of the lore, and you will probably miss a lot of it. The game is not about story telling, its about good ol' button mashing violence. I'd still play it just to get a feel of what the game is like, and also because it is still tonnes of fun.

CANNOT FUCKING WAIT FOR D3!

CORRECT! Nothing is better than LAN D2, especially when you play hardcore chars, makes for some intense moments :P
I might install it too. Anyone wanna create a bunch of chars on B.net and play?

EDIT: Are skill trees still only once-choosable? Or can you reset them now? Thats the only thing I don't like, hope they get a system like Titan Quest where you can reset it.

Depends on what way you look at it, on Bnet it only took a few hours to get a level 70 or so character, so it wasn't an issue making a new character in that regard.

It would be nice that if they included a skill reset as a quest reward though. You'd only get 3 (one for each difficulty), but it gives you a little more flexibility.

Though what I loved about Bnet play is the pure characters you could make. I had a poison necro that was doing about 65k damage with a single poison stab over 10 secs, 35k with poison explosive and 6k dmg with poison nova, all coupled with reduce resistances curse (helped out the sorceress' also). I nearly had him complete too and was only hunting for the unique poison facets to socket items. Gogo "Arnie Anthrax"...

Logic-Liam 29th June 2008 3:21 PM

Awesome news!!
Funny thing is I've been back in to D2 LOD for the past couple of weeks, started a new character, wondering if there will ever be a D3. Now I know.
I always seem to go back to D2... nothing compares.
** Excited **

Lets hope they don't bother making a console version!!!

I tried to get Diablo to work with XP and had no luck, I'm off to find my Diablo 2 CD now....

Interesting art style maybe, in some situations, but I want gritty, dammit, gritty. Hopefully all the blood soaked dungeons of hell just havne't been shown yet :S.

Coolest cut scenes ever.

I have to get a better screen.

Seriously - if I had the cash when D2 was released I would have a Tyriel tattoo. Still might get one.......

Drunkmunky 29th June 2008 10:32 PM

Have been playing D2 on and off since release, was playing it a fair bit a few weeks ago :) And I was only just discussing with friends on friday night the possibility of a Diablo 3, I shat brix.

TaroT 29th June 2008 11:06 PM

well luckily for me my wife enjoys diablo even more than me...just means upgrading her comp too :D
i looked at the play video and it looks a hoot.

i knew they wouldn't let the franchise die...now just kick wow in the balls and let the real games come through :p

Narcoticx2 30th June 2008 8:20 AM

I'm desperately waiting for this game. I dont think i've been looking forward to a game so much since supcom.

I think that's because my two favourite games are the Diablo line and Total Annihilation (excluding UO which I cannot go back to).

I'm impressed with the way they've done it - scripted sequences, destructible environment, keeping the uniques etc. Everything Titan Quest tried to do!

If only they had an Aussie BNet server!

iinsom 30th June 2008 8:46 AM

To be honest, i used to bot pretty frequently on d2, but thats only after i found out you could make some cash on the side :)

Yah me too. I was one of the 'founding members' of d2jsp, before njag went crazy and started charging. Did you know that was originally an OPEN SOURCE project???! Those were pre 1.10 days, that was when I quit playing seriously. Oh well, made a few hundred off the game I played for endless hours... not a bad result. Oh wtf? no more maphack! that is shit!!

And we can look forward to the same thing for D3!

*busily starts designing his own D3 bot* J/K!

For the love of god PLEASE MAKE IT DUPE PROOF! thats what killed D2 for me.

trickma 30th June 2008 9:23 AM

Haha yeah, the good old Soj being used as currency due to excessive dupes was quite hilarious.

Never saw one drop, yet i had about 20

And we can look forward to the same thing for D3!

For the love of god PLEASE MAKE IT DUPE PROOF! thats what killed D2 for me.

Yeah, duping stuffed the game up for me also. Spent hours trying to MF all the best gear. Only then to find out you could dupe and suddenly i had a grandfather sword, 20 sojs etc...stopped playing a week after that all happened. Also never saw a SOJ drop and i used to have the best MF gear.

This is so strange! I played countless hours MFing with my Sorc and I have never seen a SoJ drop either! I started to imagine them to be some mythical item that only spawned once and was just duped...

Iceickle 30th June 2008 10:44 AM

All the years I played D2, i never actually used a dupe (not through lack of trying, either!) They always seemed to be private. I seem to remember some sort of dupe involving gold? Maybe I used that one ... :)

I think I found a few SOJ's. I seem to remember a bugged ring that had awesome sorc stats (i thought this was the SOJ for a second here, google sorted me out). Actually now that I think of it, when I saw the amount of white items with rediculous stats, thats when I decided to stop.

Me and a friend were teamed up in this game, combined accounts. He called me at 8am very excited one morning, "ZOMGZOMGZOMG! WE GOT A WINDFORCE!#@$&*#$" ... It was pretty early in the morning, i was too tired to care. "great thanks. now we are rich" *hangup*. the Windforce bow was the rarest item in the game at that point, pindlebot had pulled through :D i think our combined wealth was around 500soj rings at that point. livin the high life!!!

You can relax. D3 won't be out for at least 3 years, and SC2 has at least another 2...

This is Blizzard we are talking about, they spend years and years polishing an otherwise finished product and neither of these games are anywhere near finished yet. WoW expansions are the exception to the rule, they don't seem to care about those anywhere near as much as they do about their non-mmo's :)

nexx 30th June 2008 10:51 AM

Hacking ruined Diablo1 for me. I couldn't play online with random people without everybody having ridiculous stats or trying to town kill. I wanted to play with mates online but they either didn't have internet back then, or the internet dialup plans sucked ass.

Played Diablo2 privatively with friends, will probably do the same with D3.

I've never played any diablo games before, but fuck me dead after browsing the official site, and watching the video, i want to play it!

from previous experience, was diablo 2 a "pay by the month" game like WoW, or was it like starcraft where you just buy the game and bang, away you go?

Man, this is just bloody awesome, because as a WoW player, I wasn't really impressed with the latest updates/news for WotlK.

No monthly fee's for diablo 2. Expect the same for D3. You will probably find that the game wont have many updates apart from an expansion though.

I think the no-pay-to-play attitude for SC and D2 is what keeps people playing it. I personally would have never gone back after the first time if I had to pay $10 a month. Instead however, it's free and old accounts are deleted after 9 months. Sounds pretty fair to me.

Interesting art style maybe, in some situations, but I want gritty, dammit, gritty. Hopefully all the blood soaked dungeons of hell just havne't been shown yet :S.

I don't seen any real similarity to WoW environments (other than them both being fantasy settings), looks pretty much like Diablo2 in a fancy 3d engine. Given that we have only seen a bit of the early game set around the cathedral, I'd say its safe to say that later enviroments will probably be much more 'hellish' anyway.

Shame no necromancer, but at least the replacement's version of bonewall is useful for something other than farming rares :).

Care to explain why? I'm looking at this as a completely retarded comment right now.

Dupes - Thousands upon thousands of the rarest items are replicated at no cost (doesn't even take much time). These items flood the economy (destroying it in the process) if the duper is careless, or they are rich for the rest of their account life if they distribute them very slowly.

Bots - People run these for hours on end, haul in 3 or 4 items worth keeping every 24 hours or so (this was the rate I experienced with, hmm cant remember exactly, maybe 1300% magic find?). These slowly build up to make the account rich. They probably trade these off, but at such a slow return of investment (time vs items found) they do not affect the game economy as a whole. I guess one could hoard items and release these at once, but that would take months for a laugh or two.

Ok so lets look at these two frowned upon activities and see which one is 'the worst'.

One destroyes the D2 economy, for all players. The other has the same potential, but who the hell would wait so long to do this? (especially when there might be a convenient dupe around).

The problem here is that these two activities are closely related. People bot for rare items, then dupe them. So I guess my conclusion here is that IMO any form of duping has the potential to destroy the game (from an economy POV) with or without bot users. Botting by itself is not nearly as destructive.

Also bugged (white) items, with duping those totally changed the dynamics anytime a new item was found/created & duped. Nothing to do with botting here.

stedyedy 30th June 2008 6:16 PM

Really ? how does a bot play all by itself and get you items? how does it work?

I never heard of that before but I haven't played in a while..

Lol. I'm not even gonna bother with a response. You obviously have no problem with leaving bots running 24/7 that get you the best items without doing ANYTHING. It destroys the economy just as much as duping does, however over a longer period of time.

I think the altered pictures look crap, all the color is washed out. I think blizzard are doing a fine job with the look of the game so far.

stedyedy 30th June 2008 6:45 PM

The problem with the before pics is the colour scheme is too much like stacraft 2 and warcraft 3.

Diablo needs to be darker and have its own unique style although we have only seen a little bit of D3 so far and its possible they will change it, The reason it need to be darker is so it doesn't look like every other 3d isometric game out there like titans quest.

I think so too. The game looks brilliant. The altered shots look great too, don't get me wrong, but the fact that the game has only just been announced and people are already saying "it looks crap, try this" is just rude, especially when the shots look great.

Ok, in response to your response that is not actually a response:

Yeah, bots get you good items. It's not a ticket to getting every good item in the game EVER, like you seem to think it is. The 'longer period of time', due to pure probability, is years and years and years. Even with thousands of hours of botting (whatever runs the bots do nowadays), you wouldn't be suprised to see only one or two elite, REALLY elite, items. i.e. Windforce. I'm not arguing about how botting doesn't destroy the economy, because in a way it does. I'm arguing your comment about 'dupes didnt kill D2, botters did'.

Cue 'arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics'.

stedyedy, a bot is a program that plays the game for you, usually doing one monster over and over and over again, collecting any rare items. They use to be very basic but got pretty damn good over the years. Blizzard were doing their best to ban botters when I got out of the scene. It would make me extremely happy if Blizzard could dupe and bot proof D3, so we can have a PROPER economy, like the ladders! (although I never played in the ladder realms, I suppose they probably got bastardized with a dupe at some point or another, good thing they can be reset)

I agree with dave, the game looks fantastic as it is

I was guilty of using the sniffer trick to get SoJ's from the gambling NPC though.

The class itself wasn't (and isn't) shit, but some of the Necro's core skills, such as Poisons and some Summons really did suck for a long time until they were buffed in a patch. It must be said, however, that ALL poisons and most summons for all classes sucked for a while.

Is it confirmed that there will be no Necro?

Spoiler below, highlight to read:
Druids suck ;)

dakcrack 1st July 2008 8:14 AM

druids do not suck! in singleplayer they are probably the best character. on b-net hurricane druids don't fly too badly.

Narcoticx2 1st July 2008 8:33 AM

All of the classes in D2 had their period where they were the most powerful - Barbs with WW, Necro's with Bone Spirit and Res'd monsters and CE, Amazons with Lightning Fury or whatever it was in cow levels, Sorcs.. well there were about 20 different powerful ones, Assassins with their corpse explosion traps and then later their martial arts, Druids with their werewolf or tornado, and paladins with their magic hammers.

Something tells me though it'll be a lot more balanced in D3. Every class will be powerful and won't have useless skills. At least I hope so.

what was the thing you could get from the cow level that wasnt anywhere else in the game? d2fanbioskGO!
<3 yas

The items that the cow king would only drop was his own personal set! To Cow Kings Leathers, it contained 3 items and they would only drop In Cow Level Hell so it was impossible to get a full set in single player unless he miraculously dropped all 3 pieces; they were a great botting set since they added +magic find.

Cannula 2nd July 2008 2:22 AM

Also hard without cheating as if the cow king is killed with you in the level you can not open the portal again and need another player to do so for you. ;)

Darkness' 2nd July 2008 5:15 AM

This popped up on digg before : http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=909

It's a 5 page article which has grouped all the various bits of information floating around the web about d3. Good for a read if you want a bullet point article showing what's to come.

Not entirely true. I thought it was only if you were in the same screen of the cow king dying would it block it for you..i remember doing heaps of runs, guys killing the king and me still being able to open the portal.

simboes 2nd July 2008 8:45 AM

Does this mean that people will stop playing WOW so much?

hope so, diablo was a much greater game

If you where in a party doing cow runs and someone in that party killed the CK then pop, there goes your chance of opening MooMoo Farm again.

Best bet was to run around killing hell bouvines then soon as u see CK leave the party and run away.

Hello Matt,

The Diablo II key you lsited has been permanently restricted from playing realm games. The second offense detected witrh this key was back in August, 2006. You'll need to obtain and reinstall the game with a new Diablo II key if you wish to play on the closed realms.

Arrrg! Maybe they found a way of scanning for dupes. It wouldnt have been me playing back in August 2006, maybe someone got ahold of my CD key.
Id love to get back playing, ill have to source a key

You should be able to pick up the Diablo Battle Chest for ~$35 from EB on their current sale.

W00t! my old "borrowed" copy of Diablo II won't work. Gonna go and pick this up right now from EB! :)

For those wanting quick levels.

Normal Runs-

levels . . . areas
1-8.........kill stuff in act 1
8-16.......tristram runs
16-22......arcane/tombs or cows
22-26......chaos sanctuary runs or cows
26...........kill ancients
27-45.......Baal runs
45-55.......quest and level thru nightmare up to Baal. Chaos runs are mostly what you'll find here.
55-75.......NM Baal runs
skip nightmare cows there's no point
75+power thru Hell in most convenient way and start doing hell baal runs and hell cows.

G bug Runs (dunno if Blizz have patched this in 1.12a )
1. Have someone to rush you from act1 to act5 normal.
2. Make a Baal for quest game, such as 'BAAL 4 Q FAST'.
3. Have the rusher go to the Throne of Destruction, and tp for the rest of the party. The rest of the party must have already done the ancients quest. Meanwhile, you wait in town.
4. After killing the minions, have the rusher, and at least one of the people in your party who need the quest, go into the Worldstone Chamber and kill Baal. You will get the quest, because someone else in your party who needed the quest got it. Leave the game, and you will become a 'slayer'.
5. Have someone rush you act1 to act5 nightmare.
6. Make a Baal for quest game, such as 'BAAL 4 Q FAST'.
7. Have the rusher go to the Throne of Destruction, and send a TP for the rest of the party. The rest of the party must have already done the ancients quest. Meanwhile, you wait in town.
8. After killing the minions, have the rusher, and at least one of the people in your party who need the quest, go into the Worldstone Chamber and kill Baal.
You will get the quest, because someone else in your party who needed the quest got it. Leave the game, and you will become a 'champion'. The person or people who were in your party and went into the Worldstone Chamber for you is refered to as the person you gliched off of.
9. Have someone rush you act1 to act5 hell.
10. Have someone chaos (chaos means a high level character teleports to the Chaos Sanctuary, and sends a TP for all the lower level characters in the game. Everyone follows the chaoser around until its all clear of monsters, then he kills Diablo, and makes a new game. There should be plenty of chaos games in hell difficulty to join. Usually, hammerdins or light sorceresses make the best chaosers.) you until you are around level 75.
11. Then it is time to do hell ancients, then Baal runs until your char is leveled as you see fit.
12. Finally, after your character is as high of a level as you care to get him through baal runs, kill normal and nightmare ancients, thus adding two levels to your current one.

Doing the Grun method one can normaly attain 1-70(maybe more) within the span of 1 day.

Whenever i play D2 in closed bnet i will make my game as OCAU with the password OCAU incase anyone wants to come... hang out

Sharpe 2nd July 2008 3:22 PM

Why is diablo 2 so popular? I enjoyed it the one time I played it, but by the end it did get a little tedious. It was just constant clicking and no skill involved, mindless levelling up etc.

I'm not trolling, I am actually quite curious as to why people love it so much? Is it the atmosphere? The co-op online?

When diablo 1 came out, it was one of a kind. People were introduced to a new style of gameplay and loved it. D2 followed suit and with even better online ability it just took off. Story line was great and the dark and gritty atmosphere it displayed was even better.
I guess my experience was helped by my one of my mates back in highschool who was into it aswell. We used to spend hours trying to out do each other with items etc..I remember just joining games just to trade items for hours on end.

i didnt realise you could get to uber trist at level 1.

trickma 2nd July 2008 4:28 PM

Back in the days i just use to get someone to rush me through to the end then jump into cow games in soak up the XP, leveled like crazy.

But since I'm playing again from the start I'd rather play it properly, I'll rush a 2nd character (If I do actually stay on to play for a while).

I hope a lot of people take it up again.

Myself and a workmate are back into D2.

Here's hoping D3 comes quickly and lives up to expectation - Hellgate burnt me on the latter.

It's got everything. I think the main factors are the rich music, atmosphere, characters etc. It has everything a good story should and it's incredibly fun to play.

And yes online play is the only way to go

lol :p

It lacks the atmosphere compared to the first time you play D1 through, but it gives it a good go. It's more arcade than diablo1.
Still bucketloads of fun

witch doctor - necro / sorcerer merge anyone?

Fresh79 3rd July 2008 12:33 PM

I'm guessing Sorcerer on her own. Witch Doctor basically replaces Necro I guess.

Barbarian makes 3 classes. The other two - Rogue/Amazon type of class and who knows? I never cared much for Paladin but there is going to have to be some kinda of healer class.

Hmm
I think they will have a true fighter, a pure mage, and a distance char..
The others would likely be support chars.

Hence, I think they will have the Barbarian, Sorcerer and Archer/Rogue (rogue has been in the past 2 with success, so why take it out!) and then for support they have the Witch doctor and some kind of healing magic/combat support char, like a cleric/paladin type thing.

But, at this stage, one can only speculate!

Jul1an 3rd July 2008 12:44 PM

hopefully the classes will amount more than 5.
the fact that you can only customize the sex of your class is a bit dissapointing but the armor changing for each class is pretty badass but it did the same thing in diablo 2.

Hopefully not. New classes are good, but losing my army of awesome undead minions is very bad.

Witch Doctor has minions!

curare 3rd July 2008 1:15 PM

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some cross-game classes. I can imagine a shaman type class being present and I'm pretty sure paladins will be back.

I'm wondering what they are going to do with 'end-game' content. There is talk that they may be including something like that, but what it will entail, nobody knows. I'm hoping it won't be anything like WoW raiding where you have to play for 2/3/4 hour long sessions to accomplish it.

Nevok 3rd July 2008 1:43 PM

It's fine to take aspects of WoW and implement them in some of your other titles, things like auction houses etc have been discussed and would make a good addition to the game but it needs to stay true to the Diablo way of things. If it starts to become similar to WoW, in terms of itemization and raiding (in which I doubt, I mean at the end of the day WoW is an MMO and it will still be alive around the time D3 gets released, so you still want to have a solid difference between both titles) I'll be disappointed.

Only thing I hate about Blizzard is, when they announce a title all the excitement disappears upon you getting reminding that... it's Blizzard it'll take 2-3 years for it to get released.

I'd say they'll have plans for further expansion down the track. Works for them, works for us. They can respond to any demand if they choose not to include a class and it's sorely missed by many - Just add it in the expansion.

Juggling and balancing more than 5 classes would also only prolong release date, and I'd rather have it released sooner with expansions later than all at once later.

The Witch Doctor is like a mix between Necro and shaman from what I've seen, i doubt they will have another "weird" in between type class.

Barb
Sorc or some dedicated spell caster
Amazon or some dedicated archer
Witch Doctor
Paladin or ? .. I think paladin will remain.

I agree with the types of classes, but I think they are trying to bring in some different classes that tie in with the lore of the game well, hence the witch doctor. The barb ties in well with the storyline and events (last place you are in d2 is harrogath)

Set 3rd July 2008 4:24 PM

I hope they cut out the paladin all together, they always just seemed so useless. I'd prefer if they put in a druid, or shape shifting type character.

Edit: Or maybe even a shape shifter that turns into demonic like figures rather then the standard bear etc.

Daexkor 3rd July 2008 4:49 PM

Man, I was really unphased when they announced this, I played D2 but it didn't hold my attentions for long, I didn't really check this out.

But after watching that gameplay video, god damn that looks fun.

Definitely on my list of upcoming games I'm looking forward to.

I think the lack of random levels and a battle net are what killed titan quest in the long run. It's great for one or two goes but the fact that people can (and do) cheat so easily online and it's exactly the same level every time make it a short lived game... hence why d2 is still doing well.
