I re-apllied my thermal paste and these are my temps. Remember it takes about 200 hours for the Silver 5 to cure properly. Another 3 - 5 C drop. I am running now at these temps.
Core 0 = 37
Core 1 = 33C
Core 2 = 38C
Core 3 = 33C.

My ambient is 24 C. Are these better than stock cooling?

Aftermarket coolers don't really make much of a difference to idle temps - they're there to reduce the load temps (and noise).

The temps you are getting is normal.

I have a same sort of setup. Them higher temps you are getting are reading Tjunction temps. You are looking for Tcase temps, big difference. I would recommend using Speed fan for Tcase and Tjunction temps and Real Temp for just Tjunction temps.

Your cpu has a cut off feature that once it reachs Tjunction temp of 99 Degrees it will switch the computer off so dont stress to much.

Yeah, "CPU" temperature in most monitoring programs refers to a estimated Tcase. Since theres no thermal sensor there, the BIOS guesses the temperature and in a lot of cases is quite off the mark. As a rule, I'd probably recommend stress testing to not go any higher than the Intel Spec for Tcase on the Tjunction temperatures which gives you a decent safety margin (Tjunctions are hotter than Tcase, because the temperature sensors are mounted directly on the cores iirc)

So in all instances I wouldnt go any higher than around 75 degrees on the Tjunction which should keep you safe

mate if ur running the stock speed of the 920 (2.67ghz) and if you know just a tad about bios, wats ur volts at?

If u plan on running it at stock dude, lower yours volts dude, to say 1.10v or something like that cause i'm more then sure you will see a descent drop in temps.

THATS IF UR keeping it at stock even if ur going to overclock for some reason then you can still manage a mild over clock with low volts.

Give bios a crack and drop ur volts dude. You might be surprised.

wat stepping is the CPU? Just saw you have a D0.

Dude drop your volts and I bet you will be happyier.

ALSO: i7 - 920 with 21x actually runs 143watts from Core temp says.

my idle temps are 40/43/36/38 on a q9550!!!

i think better clocking chips run hotter

i had an average clocking q9550 that ran at 24/24/25/25 idle but took just under 1.4 to get 4ghz whereas my newer hotter one does 4ghz at 1.264.

core temp says I am using 147.3 watts. I didn't overclock in the BIOS I just have it set in turbo mode using the EPU software.

Ha ha, my Q9550 is impossile to get temps like that with at idle, because the sensors are definately stuck to 36,27,32,39 (my old heatsink got the same and it was worse than this one)

HI , thx for the help so far. Currently I have one fan mounted on my CPu cooler. An Antec Tri - cool.

If i got 2 x Scythe SlipStream Fan 1900rpm (110.31CFM) and put them on my Cooler would I get big drops? Because I saw reviewers were using that Fan combo on their Prolimatech and getting great results.

Also , I have turbo mode enable (2786 MHZ constant), and Hyperthreading enabled. My current V-Core is 1.26 . I know how to work in the Bios , would a 1.10 V-Core work with Hyperthreading and Turbo enabled.

Going from single stock fan to two high power Scythe Ultra Kaze in push pull config only got me about 2C cooler on load. Your Prolimatech Megahalems will draw heat from the CPU better than my Hyper 212 so you might get slightly more perhaps 3C. If you can undervolt at the same time then you could reclaim a little more still.

Mate having hyper and speedstep is fine, yeh go for a 1.10volts and see how ya go, might be the fact that ur D0 is a descent one and you could drop it even tad bit more, remember volts and wat makes the cpu heat up.

If your running 1.26v a bit to much for stock 2.66ghz (from my 920 @ 1.23v i'm running 3.7ghz) temps 41,36,38,36 idle

So yeah dude, drop away and see how ya go.

thx for the help. I made the V-core 1.10 and these are my temps.

Here is a pick of the inside of my case.

Are these temps much more acceptable now. Are they netter than with stock cooling. What is the difference between Tcase and Tjunction? What are the max Temps in either TCASE or Tjunction you should not pass with an overclock.
