Default Test for solid red line across LCD

I have a line across my LCD about 1 pixel wide. It has gone away when I restore the LCD to factory defaults but not always.

I'd like to be sure it's the screen, not the video card. Without getting another monitor involved is there anyway to be sure? Is changing the resolution a simple enough test to rule it out (i.e. it should go away?).

I've got to wait for it to come back before I can do anything to test it.

Print screen should display what the video card is producing.

No it won't, it'll produce what the OS has in its redraw buffers - the actual video output can only be tested by looking at the output (ie with a monitor).

If your monitor has a DVI input instead of VGA (or vice versa) try using that to see if the problem remains.

If you're connected over VGA, go into the monitor's OCD menu and move the picture up using the manual controls and see if the red line stays in the same place. If it does, it's the monitor

If you got a red line through the POST (BIOS) and it has gone away after defaulting then your lucky. Red line is indication of crook panel or driver board, Resetting points at driver board. If your still uncertain, force spastic settings with panel and wait for line to appear. Connect different monitor to PC and if no line then get monitor done under warranty ASAP.

Nope, red line tends to come up at logon screen.

I don't *think* it's ever come up at post which is why I wonder about the vid card.

The flat panel is a refurb anyway, in the process of getting it swapped for a new panel as arranged a year ago (fucking useless support dep).

This panel has a bunch of issues with it despite being A02 rev, will find out if the new panel solves the issue on Monday. If I get a red line on a new panel in the same place....well...I think I'll know.
