now my temps are maxing out at 50°C after i reseated my true120 under 100% cpu load for 8hours...

I'd still buy the Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 Black... there are some that are slightly better but more expensive... but i love my TRUE120

TRUE, Megahalems, or some of the nocturas are all great coolers in that price range.
TRUE and megahalems are similar size, I have topmounted PSU, no issues. Megahalems does however prevent me using high (big heatsink) RAM in slot 1 though...

Agree the True is a Great HS looks like you can get them for $59+:

http://www.shopbot.com.au/default.as...osition=search

Then you also want a decent TIM and 120mm Fan.

I would recommend:

TIM: MX2
http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalo...th=39_&mID=127

and 120mm Fan I would suggest Zalman ZM-F3 (for an exceptional performing "budget" fan) due to this thread:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ht=fan+testing

If I seemed blunt and coarse tending towards being offensive earlier "I don't care" because my purpose was to make sure you didn't kill something by following foolish advice.

Some more specs will help with further advice.

MOBO (including BIOS ver#):

RAM:

PSU:

etc.

DL and install CPU-z and become familiar with it and take note of Core Voltage.

but, im looking at the Zalman CNPS9700NT CPU Cooler and it says single and dual core 775 sockets, how could the core numbers make a difference to the socket, if ther all 775's, or am i reading this wrong?

that'll be fine for a quad... tho they're not that fantastic a heatsink... i'd seriously be looking at the TRUE120... far better

i've had both the regular silver TRUE120 and the black TRUE120... on my e6700 i had a drop in temps of about 2°c which isn't really too significant but the black one just looks awesome

also the copper version is even better (if you dont mind a snapped motherboard lol.. that thing is heavy)

The only time you will be a "noobY' is when you don't seek advice, follow foolish advice and kill things. The only stupid question is the one that was never asked!

It basically has fittings for a LGA775 mobo so it's just poorly worded.

I have a Zalman CNPS9500 and for the extra $5-10 (actually they can be sourced for the same price!!!) a TRUE will be worth it as it will give at least another 5-7C cooling and that is a big difference for OC. To start with you can at least consider a push-pull set up (2 fans). The Zalman coolers were great 3-4 years ago but HS have developed a lot more since then.
