Pentium is just a name that Intel wanted to keep. The Pentium name doesn't change the fact that the processor is still a core 2 duo with 2 megs of l2 cache.

Intel has made a lot of processors over the years

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...icroprocessors

You will find Pentium Dual Core is a "older technology/cut down" than Core 2 Duo, they still make them because they are cheap. Your latest technology is the Core i5 7xx / Core i7 8xx for mainstream and the Core i7 9xx Premium level Chips.

It's just a marketing thing. Intel seem to think that the name "Pentium Dual Core" is better for positioning the product line. It really is just a Wolfdale core sans some of the cache.

The other burning question is: Which CPUs support VT & which don't?

From what I've gathered, the E7xxx and onwards are the only CPUs to support it. It all gets messy though with the old E4xxx series.

Could someone do my homework for me?

The E7xxx series doesn't support vt, but the new E6xxx, replacement for the E5xxx series do support vt.

3 of the 5 E5300's are VT enabled with the SLGTL sspec. Mine is the older SLGU9 which doesn't support it. My other E6300 is also SLGU9 but has VT.

Can VT be unlocked? Maybe a mobo BIOS hack?

Intel didn't see VT becoming important. But now with the W7 XP mode its a big issue for OEMs as the cheaper notebooks all can't run VT...

what you really have to ask yourself is does it matter

as long as the CPU is fast enough, cheap enough and does not draw too much power then that should be good enough

its not like your daughter needs an E-penis

He was probably referring to me. Who knows who cares. Put him on the ignore list.

no he was referring to my opening post, and obviously didnt think my question was really that valid, but his 3rd comment was the one i dont think was needed, just more stupid crap from posters who feel they need to thread crap and not offer anything relating to the topic.

cheers
