If it's backup, I don't see why you would use RAID.

Probably depends just how important that data is to you
If it's mission critical you may well have that for a backup then a second backup on tape

It would make much more sense to me to instead use the HDDs as separate backups (i.e. HDD 1 for odd days, HDD 2 for even days).
