Default X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro or Asus Xonar D2X

I'm looking into one of these 2 sound cards for awhile and i still haven't decided for which sound card to get so, i'm asking you folks to tell me what 'would' you prefer?

There both roughly around the same price. I'll be using it for both gaming and music/movies

im also looking the Logitech z5500THX's!

Thanks in advance!
Any help much appreciated!

All I can say is if you get your X-Fi running DTS Neo:6 in Cinema Mode and DTS Interactive, with foobar2000's noise sharpening, you'll have the most amazing music experience. EAX5 and OpenAL in games like Quake4/UT3 is really nice too, but I think both cards do that...

PS. Screw Creative's drivers though! Get a third-party X-Fi.

+1

Get this or this. I'd recommend the second option.

My X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro has a lot of driver issues...its a great sound card but a bit touchy every now and again.

DONT get the X-Fi prelude, or anything X-Fi chipset, if you are going to use a digital connection with DDL or DTS encoding, if you enjoy your sound disappearing, distorting, then reappearing a second or two later.

Get the Asus.

I'm still waiting for a proper driver fix.

I found a thread here ages ago also complaining basically about the same original problem. They fixed it by "restarting the chip", which means it distorts for a few seconds.

I'm in a similar position. The fatality and non/fatality are pretty much the same right? Because the non-fatality is about $100 cheaper and it doesn't have the wanky cover/shell. I've been looking and also could not find anywhere in the specs where the Xonar supports EAX, anyone verify? Cheers.

Asus Xonar hands down, I'll never go creative again after how they stuff us around with their pathetic support with drivers.

I agree, after using for several years creative soundcards, I found the only OS that is most stable for there drivers is still old XP. Everytime I use them in Vista or Win 7 especially 64bit versions, within minutes of launching a game, I got BSD! very poor drivers support yet they are the main team on the market for PC sound cards...

Would I notice a sound quality increase with a D2X on Z-5500's? Or only a very slight increase? Currently using optical audio

Z-5500s r fantastic sounding speakers, I've been using them for over a year. But you should remember that sound quality judgements can be subjective. I reckon about 9 out of 10 people who take there PC audio seriously will recommend Z-5500s. If you want to get maximum possible quality from them & can afford it, I recommend upgrading the default speaker wire that comes with them too.
