Question Win2k clustering - shared disc.

I was wondering if it was possible to replace the external shared disc needed for win2k adv server clustering, with something else?

Maybe a /SMB share? It seems silly that you must have a shared SCSI bus, just to cluster in Windows.

Anyone know of a way around this hardware requirement?

Thanks.

The short answer is no. Clustering in windows is meant to provide failover, and in the case of partitioned data sets, the possibility of distributing processing. This functionality is targeted at medium and large companies who need a fully redundant solution for availability reasons and can afford to pay for it. You can run single-node "clusters" without the shared stored just for testing purposes, but there's no way I know of to run a real cluster without proper SCSI shared storage.

Huh? Do you mean server + one?

No, just one Advanced Server running Clustering Services.

Some uses for doing this:
* to learn how to install and administer MSCS
* to write and/or test software in the MSCS environment
* to have the Cluster Administrator tool available to administer real clusters

Good points - Thanks for the help.
I might stick with Linux though.
