Default Gigabyte 5870 not reporting GPU usage

Does anyone know why my card is not reporting GPU usage in any software?

Tried Cat 10.3 and 10.4.

Can't get usage no matter what i do.

CCC should by details, if not try GPU-Z as suggested above. What specific gigabyte model do you own?

I have the Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD5870 Ultra Durable 1GB.

Its not reported in either GPU-z or CCC.

I'm guessing GPUz gets it from CCC.

I must say, my overall experience wtih ATI after switching from Nvidia has not been pleasant.

- Poor folding speeds
- Gpu usage not reporting
- Crashes when HD video is played in certain circumstance (thread in TS forum)
- Battlefield 2 will not do Vsync with a 58xx card

Performance wise, great card, really pleased with the way it performs when its doing what its meant to, but I never had these sort of probs with Nvidia.

:-(

Use D3Doverrider to force VSync.

The GPU usage may be specific to the Ultradurable's, have you tried using MSI afterburner?

D3Doveridder is part of the Riva Tunner suite and currently does not support 58xx cards.

I tried forcing with ATI Tools, same problem.

I have tried MSI afterburner and its the same deal, so you may be right about it being a problem with the Gigabyte line...

Perhaps its only the Rivatuner app itself, D3D overrider certainly works for me in BC2 with my HD5870.

I just installed rivatuner, copied the d3dfolder out and then uninstalled rivatuer and it works fine

Also, you need to flash to the new BIOS to fix your issues dude.

Battlefield 2, not Bad Company 2, BC2 Vsync works, its BF2 that does not.

But thanks for the suggestion, I will try this.

SilverSilence, I have never done a GPU bios. Scary sounding stuff, not sure if its worth the risk to gain GPU util read outs, but thanks for the heads up.

It also fixes 2D/3D clocks and the crashing when playing HD content, i have the 5850 version of your card.

Use ATi Winflash or Gigabyte's own Flash program, I've flashed my card with ATi WinFlash a fair few times now without any issues.

Not able to contribute, but as an aside, isnt forced V-sync in online fps a bad thing? I've heard more than one person describe it as a liability of sorts and to be avoided.
