The angle thing with the teeth, looks well....just bad. IMO How are you goint to go about the mounting the whole thing on those transparent corner things I wonder.
The corners are metal and the bottom of the angle bit is to so welding. What do you think I should do then? Also it looks better in the model I took a weird angled pic

Ran out of internet usage so i cant post updates. Did anyone download it yet? I added tubing on the outside of case running from bottom compartment to top and got a way of building the bottom part but having trouble working out how to build the top. Are all psu the same length? I know they're the same width and height but I need a way of mounting it without screws and I might have a good way. Also is their any way to extend wires with out adding another set of plugs to it. The motherboards a fair way away from the psu when it has to go through a pipe and round the motherboard. I was thinking to get some more wire for each plug and solder it on then heat shrink over the solder and sleeve it. That should work wihth the mobo and gpu ones and hdd and blu ray shouldnt be a problem though. Edit: got a picture of what I think will be my final design uploaded finally and worked out how to mount the mobo tool free and I get autocad tommorow so can do some more accurate drawings and get it ready to be built. Edit for the edit: forgot the pic lol Click to view full size! What do you think?
when are you gonna start turning them renders into a reality motas? And whats the point of the angled top, its so tall that when its on a desk you couldnt see the top anyway, and if it was on the floor then you would be looking down onto it so it wouldnt do anything.
Don't get me wrong mate I do like your design and appreciate the time and effort that you've put into it so far, but honestly, that thing looks like it would break with the slightest bump, if it were real. I think you've going a bit overboard and need to continue with the idea but whole suspended on metel thingys whatever they are is kinda crazy, looks like it could almost be top heavy and fall over by itself.
I'm waiting on a 64 bit autocad from dads work to draw it up. The one the guy gave me was from 2000. I also need a quote on the top part which will be tool free (see other thread) and see if they can make the res out of glass and also I need money lol. It will be on the floor and i just thought it looked cool having it angled and it gave me a chance to make it a bit less genericand a but more complicated. Need some measurements for final design. How much room should I leave for future gpus and how wide is the widest 360mm radiator? Also how do I extend wires without adding bulky plugs and stuff would it screw the psu?
glass res....very fragile, heavy and pretty impractical imo. TBH i think you need to tone things down a little... dont start something complicated and then expect it to come out just right. Not that I have anything against you or the design I just think some of the ideas are just a bit too hard to pull off. still looking forward to seeing this thing started
With the size of this the amount of weight added by glass wouldn't matter. Also laminated glass is strong and they make fish tanks out of it so it shouldn't be too hard. I just really like the look of glass compared to acrylic.
You like the look of something over the look of something which looks exactly the same? I think you just like the idea of the glass, I don't see how it would have any real-world benefits (unless a case that weighs a tonne is a good thing to you )
Sorry just notices your post. How woul it break. The spikes on the corners will be welded to most of the edge there on and it can't really fall over because the points are the widest point an it's not exactly a skinny case. Also the motherboard part has a pipe holding it up as well they don't just sit on little spikes. Also I would like to use fairly thick alu. Glass and acrylic do not look the same. You can easily tell the difference and glass is also alot harder to scratch. If noone can make it for a reasonable price I will just use acrylic but I would rather glass
Lose the angle and the spikes, looks silly and will be very hard to manufacture, it will also make it fragile. Agreed with the above that you should use plastic and not glass as it will be too fragile. Apart from that I liked the first few designs where it was an actual cube.
Which first designs? The ones with mobo on top or in the middle? How is glass fragile though? Laminated glass I think it is that they use on windscreens and stuff is alot stringer than plastic. Would the top be strong enough with a price if alu pipe. I think all the designs are just too simple but when I think of something it's too hard to build. Gonna do at least some of it in a DNA apple red candy which will make it look pretty good.
The last one just before you tilted it. I'm sure you could make it strong but it just adds complexity and tbh it ruins the design, I guess its up to you as you are building it but I just don't think it looks good with the tilt. Laminated glass would be better but expensive to do it all compared to plastic.
If the glass shop can do it in laminated glass I will otherwise I will go acrylic. Acrylic is extremely easy to scratch though. I ran a scrap of it over a blunt saw blade for cutting wood. Not even any pressure and it scratched it up. And the blades teeth were like square. Anyway have you got any better ideas to make the not angled design a bit less simple because the angled bit makes cables hard but I had no other ideas. Also hopefully get the right autocad tonight. Got 2000 edition last night and it wouldn't install. How muchroom should I leave for gpu and how much room do I need for the 360mm rad?
I reckon just start building it and see how it goes along the way.. great looking imaginary case isnt doing you any good lol.
You realise how much it is going to cost to get what you want? i got quoted $50/h for cnc work. So like $100+ for the cnc another $100 for glass (probs more) another $100 for res' (probs more) another $300ish for a fabricator dosent seem worth it, costs more than a normal case, with the functionality of.. a normal case just make it by hand. lol
Dads business gets alot of stuff laser cut and cncd so they should be able to do it for a bit less plus they buy alot of metal so I should be able to get that at a reasonable price. Glass will be lots. What do I need a fabricator for? I plan to put it together myself I meant I'm not making all the pieces by hand.
