Doors for living room HT unit

Looking to build a unit along one wall for the living room.
TV will be 52inch wall mount, unit will stand around 750mm tall 3.5m wide.
Having the dilemma where the Mrs want everything hidden behind solid doors.
Yes that includes the speakers (physics isn't her strong point, but aesthetics is )... where I want everything open obviously.

Speakers (2 bookshelf/1 centre) isn't a big deal as I was going to take them out when ever I use them.. day to day TV won't need them. TV speakers or my ceiling ones will suffice.

Definitely getting an all in one remote, but how well does IR redirectors work.

Does mesh doors work for IR purposes?

Any options for Radio based remotes with my Integra 7.9 receiver.
If it can how can it be done as i'm pretty sure its not built in.

I'm a noob in AV so bear with me if my questions are kinda elementary.
