Default xp1900@2000+ way too hot

my unlocked xp1900+@2000+ is running way too hot. i am using Noise Control's Silverado HSF(artic silver 3). how can i lower my cpu temp?

right now, it is 54º idle. folding it reaches 63º+.

it shuts down at around 68º.
i want a quiet solution.. possible the zalman6000??
water cooling isnt an option at the moment.

can i lower the voltage? will this lower the temp?

If you have none then chuck in a few quiet case fans. Will lower temps substantially.
I recommend papst from www.lownoisepc.com

Are you running default Vcore? If so, I think the temps are too high, because it is only a small OC. If you haven't done so already, reseat the HSF.

Actually, before reseating the HSF, set everything back to default, and see what your temps are. If they are similar, I'd say the problem could be that your HSF is not installed correctly.

Yeah definitely go the Volcano 7+ on "silent" mode. It gets around .63C/W cooling according to Dans Data. The best quiet Zalman (CNPS6000-Cu) only get as low as .73C/W. And the V7+ can go arctic at full speed .52C/W.

My 2000+ is only runnig at 40C on "silent" mode with the V7+.

Never heard of your HSFan. Have you got the specs? Link?

http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q...cooler-10.html
is my HSF.

Is the v7+ very quiet on "silent" mode?
i got the instructions for installing my HSF, (and silly me!!) i think i have had it installed the wrong way for a few months!!
taken it off the socket many times, always put it on the same way.

i'll check tonight and if not, i'll consider getting the v7+.

Thanks.

Nah I don't fold yet

The highest my CPU got on Sandra Burn-in 20x was 44C on "silent". It was high 50s with the Volcano 6Cu w/- 6000rpm Sunon fan I had in it last week. That was noisy as hell.

It looks like your current cooler is equivalent to a FOP32 according to THW. The V7+ will definitely cool better than that, even in quiet mode. The Zalman is rated about the same as a FOP32.

Good luck with reseating...

ps. At 3500rpm, the V7+ can't be heard over my case fans

thats def too hot

i use a EverCool.. its not the quietest HSF around but its pretty good...

my 2000+ @ 2100/2200 Speeds idle at around 38C... never goes any higher then 45C-48C w/ full load (games/folding/etc)

using some silver paste as well... that helped me a lot.
