Default kids school science project thing

is family classed as a hobby? or a full time job lol...

anyway, just like to share a school project I did with my 6yr old for next week.

specs were:
Land Yacht
has to be powered by wind
has to include 4 different materials
needs to hold a 50gram weight.

so we build a little land yacht with tie-wire(frame_, wooden Bobbie things(wheels), tyre tube(tyres doh! ), plastic drinking straws (mast) , shopping bag (sails), plastic packaging (for carier), I had some tyre valves in, plastic garden irigation pipe/tube (for wheel bearings).

end result:

Put it on the road and it disappeared into the distance hahaha.

My daughter and I had fun making it, and I got her to use most of the tools to make it (I ended up doing most of the work) , but she enjoyed used the soldering iron (to solder the wire together), Stanley knife to cut up the sail, wire cutters... for cutting wire. etc.

Cheers, I'll keep you posted if she gets 'the distance' next week lol.

catcha's on the flip , and if you have kids, it's worth the time to do stuff with em ...

Awesome, I used to love doing these sort of projects as a kid with my dad. We made a rocket once. It nearly killed someone, but god damn it was fun!

Perfect example of the phrase 'Spend time not money' then both of you are richer for the experience!

Wow that's awesome! I remember doing projects with my parents when I was in primary school. My favorite was when Natural Disasters rolled around! All this kids chose volcano's (suprise suprise) I went with Tsunami's got a sheet of A1 in blue curled half of it over my mum painted breakng water on top and I cut out rectangles and car shaped thing from old cereal boxes we glued them on drew a road down fled sand to make a beach and stuck all the infrmation on the back of the tsunami. I got an A+ on that one! I was 11 at the time.

Thanks for posting this. It's made me think back to when I was young Doug these with my parents (mainly my mum). Can't wait till I get to do these things with my children (if I have them).
