10 or more per bracket is a bit much imo
G/B will be $4 or less each

tbh, most people probably don't need to bother, but I was bored and like finding things :)
If I knew my budgets for xmas pressies and didn't have some expenses via Japan and USA i'd order the whole lot now (and i'm on the Pension).
Also the post is very slow at the moment

I'm ok to fork out the capital expense for 50 if it's under $4 each.

Anyone had any problems with the backplanes?

I have one port on the right side (from front) that just give me weird sas/sata errors.

Redundant PSUs. The bags are self-explanatory.

Ahhh... I thought it was one of those car moments where you put everything back together and there's 5 bolts left over...

redundant psu mounts + xeon cpu mounts, not sure what the latchy things are for

will pm you some info soarerGT

edit: also, have 2 perc/sas brackets left ;), after they're gone I'll post the cheaper (hopefully) place to get those from
(I have a feeling they should work with those silly UIO cards too.)

Nearly finished putting mine together. Regarding the PSU, I've transplanted a HX-1000 into the Norco... the modular molex cables come in two styles - 4 molex plugs per cable, or 2 per cable. Is it wise/safe to use either for the backplanes? So that would be 8 HDDs for the 2x molex plug cable, or 16 HDDs for the 4x.

I'd be more inclined to have less drives per cable, if you have enough cables.

    +1

I have a HX620 powering a S3210SHLC with Q9450, 8GB ECC RAM and 22 hard drives currently plugged in (9x 'green', 13 'normal' sata drives of various sizes).

Until today I had all backplanes powered by the 1:7 molex connector from the group buy, but I found once I connected more than 15 drives, or scrubbed a 12 drive pool, zfs would start throwing one of my system mirror drives out and hanging for hours.

Today I replaced with 3x 1:2 molex connectors that came with the HX620 and so far it's been rock solid. I have 22 drives plugged in, and can copy/scrub a 12 drive pool with not a hint of a problem.

I just have 3x seperate cables from PSU with 2 molex each. One cable powers two backplanes aka 8 drives. Works fine but I'm using all low power green drives. The top row with the SAS drives has a second cable to the second molex socket (and also powers the fans). PSU is a Silverstone Strider 600w modular. These PSU's are beasts  In its previous life in a PC, some stupid power cable snuck between the fan grill and stopped the fan spinning. I didn't notice for a week and it was running 24/7 with no problems.

Do you mean the second one on the horizontal axis i.e. to the right of the molex connector for that row? If so that molex socket provides redundancy, not more power e.g. you have PSU 1 plugged into one socket and PSU 2 plugged into the second socket. In case one PSU fails, then you have another PSU ready to supply power. I'm sure it doesn't matter that you have them both plugged in from the same PSU but I thought you might want to know for peace of mind .

I gathered this from reviews, don't actually own a Norco myself (although I do want one) so someone who owns one should provide a second opinion.

Yer, the two connectors are wired in parallel, really only for high powered drives I guess. To provide more stable voltage with high current pull, (15K SAS Drives, etc)

Yep. In the end it all goes back to the same rails inside the PSU, but its basically to limit the current going through any one set of conductor cables.

TBH, its only plugged in there because it was dangling around nearby, since I needed another cable run to power the fanboard. It wasn't a planned thing ;)
