Does FreeNAS keep a log of network access? IP addresses etc? |

it does but it depends on the service and how long ago as it flushes the logs... you can schedule it to email reports also

Righto then. So are you saying if I never setup this service, then it's not running/working? I need more information. Sorry.
I use the BSD version of FreeNAS if that makes a difference. |

Diagnostics > Log
holds the history data of freeNAS but it is not big so it can overflow if you dont go to settings and expand it higher than 50 Diagnostics > Information Lets you see the status of all services (eg users connected via ftp and location etc...) you can turn on email log dumps so freenas sends them off at predetermined intervals to stop it being lost in overflow.
