The System Memory Multiplier (SPD) is the one that lets you set the ram divider. your board only lets you go down to 2 so it'll probably be a bit hard trying to OC. What i suggest is put your profile and ram timing on auto then the mobo will automatically set your ram to its rated specs with whatever FSB you throw at it
actually in this case it cannot go lower than 1:1 with FSB (or '2' for the SPD) on intel c2d chipset.

so if the FSB is 400 and the ram is ddr667, it will still be running at 400mhz(ddr800).

ram is one of the trickier bits of the overclocking setup, as some ram wont run really low speeds. e.g. some ddr2-800 ive tried wouldnt run ddr2-400 speeds (when fsb was 200), so i try not to set it too low

if your fsb (CPU Host Clock Control i think it is) is 400 then your memory is running ddr2-800(which i assume is the rated speed of the ram) with the 2.0 multiplier which is what you want.

leave the mch freq latch to auto if you dont know what you're doing

for some reason leaving it on auto shoots my stability down...

i guess it depends what it does when set to auto. i think higher value for that = most relaxed timings = better stability. so if it works for you, then leave it (just main thing i wasnt sure if you were confusing it for FSB)

Chi, pertaining to the OP, at the end you said post when you have BSODS etc.

I had a BSOD cause i didn't have up my Vcore enough (2 increments on the menu from default) and now my E8400's @ 3.5ghz stable ) - this was on a GA-EP45-DS3 incase anyone don't know

Also, I can't seem to get my machine stable at either 3.5ghz or 3.42ghz via Prime95, keeps giving me errors, does that mean i wind down the clock or tweak something else? I'm assuming maybe upping the voltage a notch or two..?

You guys seem to know what you are doing?

With the rig I have, what would be the best course of action - settings, volts etc?

an easy oc would be around 400fsb (3.4Ghz), thats assuming your ram runs at 800, you could probably do better if your on better ram or loosen the timing a bit. Voltage wise the only thing that you'll need to bump up would porbably be cpu core or even you can run it at stock, pretty sure a rampage can take 400 on default. But all this is speculation as i'm here and the hardware is there

Hi

i have been trying to OC my system but things just dont seem to work out.

since the system im trying to oc is an old system running

MB: GA-P34-DS3R v1
CPU: E6750
RAM: G.Skill Trident DDR 1066mhz 5-5-5-15

While looking at the guide i was confused since there was no FSB setting in my MIT tweaking part of the bios.

I tried setting the cpu host freq to 375mhz @ 8x multiplier but the system wouldnt boot when i set the ram to SPD 2x and the timing to the rated settings.

I didnt touch any of the voltages just left them as default values.

So any help is much appreciated.

try just setting the timing and spd and voltages for the ram first

the trouble with this board is that there is no actual numbers for voltage settings its just +0.1V etc but im guessing the actual voltage that gets pumped into the ram sticks at normal levels would be around 1.8v.

also when i look at the timing table through CPUZ.

Im not really sure which timings to use.

there is JEDEC#1, 2 and EPP#1

should i be using the EPP#1 as my ram is meant to be clocked at 1066mhz.

thanks
