Conservative in terms of not buying a board just to overclock with, I hardly call the maximus IV boards conservative either if we're talking about aesthetics. But then it just comes down to personal preference.
For anyone that just isn't into extreme overclocking and likes the idea of a bit of futureproofing with pcie 3.0 & inbuilt sound & lan cards, there's nothing wrong with the G1.sniper 2

Eh, like I said, personal preference, I don't find it any worse than a flat piece of black & red heatsink on the maximus & asrock boards.
As long as it does a sufficient job of being a 'heatsink' and doesnt get in the way of anything I wouldnt care if it was a shaped like a dare iced coffee lol. And honestly I don't see what makes the other two so great rofl; Click to view full size! Standard GB boards: Click to view full size! Click to view full size!

Lol so because it has a fancy heat sink it's worth $450
Tell my why its better than my $320 p8z68 deluxe board with 3x pcie ports, graphical bios, 4x 6gb sata ports and more, heck it even has a wanky iPhone app to control the bios. All these for $130 less. Bargain.

No, just comparing to the other high end boards, feature wise it isnt any worse off. I didnt say it was better value lol.
If somebody wanted a soundcard//lan card, the $130 more isnt a bad deal though.

Oh I wasn't aiming that at you, just a general thing. It's rediculous that ppl fall for marketing crap. Look at the op post, there's only one pro, pcie 3.0, there's a lot of good looking boards, most overclock well. There's more cons than pros lol

True true, there's definately better value boards out there, but compared to other high end boards, feature wise I don't see it falling short, sure pcie 3.0 isnt a huge deal but the layout is good, everything has clearance, the lan chip and xfi chip make it one of the better boards in my books, who cares about an extra pcie x16 slot if the spacing is messed up.
I'd go the asrock board over asus though if I did get something in $400 range, the only thing i actually like about them is the onboard sound & lan chips. My p55-ud3r budget board has kept me happy since the i5-750 released ![]() Feature wise for $219 I reckon this board is damn good value though: Asrock z68 extreme4 gen3 Has all the LAN xfast features, pcie 3.0, 3 pcie x16 & alc892 audio /w THX support.

Most Z68 boards will be PCI-E 3.0 compatible with a BIOS flash as far as I understand.
Anyway DFM, if you buy that board, I'm going to come around to your place and rape your cat! You mark my words. Nobody should own a fucking monstrosity like that. NOBODY! |

most GB 6 series mobos will be, as long as you update the CPU as well, as SB is PCI-E 2.

most likely, there is very little differnence physical between most motherboards, and most the NB is on the CPU anyway.
so same BIOS update to get the new CPUs to work will most likely carry the PCI-E 3 update. not that it matters in real world its not going to help for years yet. |

Waiting til bulldozer's release to make up my mind though. Donno how far the bios update to pcie 3.0 will go, maybe it will allow pcie 3.0 cards but not at pcie 3.0 speeds. http://www.asrock.com/microsite/PCIe3/overview.html Then again, even though pcie 2.0 being completely saturated is still a fair way off there may still be performance benefits, with SATA 3.0 Gb/s a Western Digital Caviar Black using this interface would not fully saturate the bandwidth, however, their SATA 6.0Gb/s version of the identical hard drive provides slightly higher bandwidth due to the technology behind the 6.0Gb/s interface.
