    WHAT??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The STALKER games were the best PC games ever IMO. I remember waiting for SoC to come out for all those years after they showed those AMAZING alpha videos back in 2004-2005.... it was well worth the wait. Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat were also great. Clear Sky was probably my least favorite of the 3 but still awesome.

There are a number of "not true" theories around. All we can do is wait for the official announcement tomorrow.

If the rumours really were untrue you would expect an official announcement pretty much immediately imo, because the longer something like this goes on the worse it becomes for the company.

Sucks though, and it's scary for the future of PC specific game devs.

That's the exact reason it was dropped, no publisher wanted to touch it, it was a PC game without all the trash that makes console shooters so popular. It wouldn't work as well on a console. It's better off this way tbh.

Agreed. The features that made the game great would not translate well on consoles. The ballistics need the precise control of a mouse, not the brutal vagaries of thumbsticks and autoaim. And remember, it was one of the few games where the player character can get insta-killed by a headshot; considering only way to make auto-aim "fair" is to simply average it out and have each bullet go for the centre-of-mass, this feature would be eliminated.

The limited memories of the consoles means that the viable ranges at which a lot of STALKER engagements took place would be gone. The medium-to-long range engagements are something we rarely see, and that's what I loved. Not just up-close spray-and-pray, nor was it calmly picking off oblivious enemies with a sniper rifle.

The brilliant living, persistent world system would be gone - there's far too many variables to keep track of in a STALKER game for a console to handle. Skyrim can't do it without crashing, and Far Cry 2, even though it was much simpler, couldn't do it either, resetting everything back to its default state as soon as it was out of the RAM.

Throw the requisite graphics upgrade into this, and it don't look good.

Inventory would be simplified, if only because it's a PITA to navigate a grid with sticks. They'd probably have to go for two healing items, at most - one for health, one for radiation, if that. Weapon mods would be decreased.

About the only thing they would keep would be the survival horror aspects, the tight, limiting corridors full of corners and shadows with things jumping out at you. It's easy on RAM, at least.

Should be any hour now... if they're still chugging along and the PC version is still being developed, I'll cry tears of bloody joy.

    Edit:

    Interesting quote:

Doing simple google search there's still no official word yet. I'm gonna keep hoping/believing it's a hoax as they were very successful and they have a community that loves them to bits (Stalker community is one of the most active in the world)
