In the VLC options, there's a setting in Video Effects under the Vout/Overlay tab. Check the box for 'Wall' and set how many rows/columns you have. Not sure if it enables on load or not, but give it a shot.

quadro's are great for this, and they have bezel and multi projector overlay compensation (so its all seamless)

Update on the situation:

I ended up going the Matrox TripleHead2Go route in the end. I managed to find a supplier who sold me the three DisplayPort Edition units for $350 each, reducing the hip-pocket damage somewhat and I now have all nine monitors running as one motza screen.

Each row of monitors is controlled by one TH2Go which in turn is then connected to the HD 6990. The PC sees three (very wide) monitors and Eyefinity happily stitched them together. No additional drivers were required - it was very much plug and play.

The Heaven 2.0 benchmark running at 4080x2304 runs at an average 16fps (topping at just under 36fps). It plays 1080p video at up to 50fps nicely now with no tearing. I'm yet to try something more "practical" like a Quake III time-demo.

Still need to do the bezel adjustment (a whole 7.3mm), but I'll do that later. For now, I'm just happy to have all nine screens running video.

The looks on peoples faces while you stand in front of it using a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse - priceless.

brilliant, so my idea for the triplehead2go did work good to see it's all up and running now!

Indeed it did - got approval for one unit, it worked, so ordered the other two and turns out the business wasn't too fussed about spending a little more money anyway (was a drop in the water considering the cost of the entire videowall) and they thankfully recognised that few other companies would go to this effort for a typical videowall anyway - it's all about showing off.

The next upgrade probably a year from now will be getting a graphics card that can decode 2160p/50 video while doing Eyefinity...!

nice! one of the new 22nm cards from nvidia or amd should do the job... maybe wait and see how the kepler based quadros turn out?

+1 for the quadro's next time! I use one at work and the multiple monitor driver implementation is awesome.

This sounds no different from Amd's eyefinity, and looks like it may suffer from same/similar limits

if i remember correctly, VLC has a mode called "mosiac", which is only accessible through the command line, or through a poorly made "mosiac wizard" which should make 9 windows of the single video, such that they are slices of the same video, and each should be full-screen-able.

Tell me how it works out for you.

Nope, it's been around a lot longer than eyefinity and has a lot less limits, better driver support, and lots of performance. Only problem is the cost.

I see it's already resolved, but for future readers, this is the option you want in VLC:

In 2011 I attempted to do pretty much the same thing (but with 460ut-b -- 1366x768 monitors) and I ended up abandoning trying to run at full resolution 4098x2304.

I did find that the VWBOX-133A-R10 will run 3x3 at 4098x2304 but it was $1600 for the box.

The quadro solution seems to require 3x quadro k5000 so that's at least $4500. (nvs series states maximum is 8 displays with 4 per card I just sent nvidia an email asking if I could put 3 nvs cards in a system)

Very cool that @HyRax1 got it to work with triple head 2 go. I purchased 3x of the triplehead 2 go back in 2011 as I had same idea, but I was unable to get it to run at anything higher than 1280x720 for each monitor. This web page http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/pr...solutions.html

says only the digital editions supports it (I bought displayport edition).
Hyrax1, did you you really get it to work on dp edition or do you have the digital edition with some sort of dvi to displayport converters?

thanks for the info on the vlc video splitting also. I plan to try out windows 8 (seems to have better multiple monitor support including spanning the background across all the monitors)
