A lot of 1st timers before the craze of the mech here would have most likely used the MX black switches and not anything else unless they got the DAS mech with brown switches.
Im glad i tried blacks 1st. because its a reference point for all switches and how stiff others are or aren't. Blacks for me at the start was fine like you no references to say otherwise. Then went to blues and fell in love with the feel, noise was fine for me but not what i want now after using reds and browns. I still think the Blues are the easiest to press even though i mainly used the reds day in and day out. To me the reds are a typing switch with little resistance and less noise. Blacks are for heavy hands who likes to really press down or gets excited when gaming. It has a real push back force that is really someone to try out. Blues are the most different out of the lot and are an acquired taste due to the noise. I find the noise overtakes the press stiffness over the browns. The browns even though technically are lighter to press don't feel that way to me. I havent touched clears yet but from what i can tell i won't like them. Love to try a varied Topre next or a HHK. As an experience i do recommend at least trying each of the main switches. you might find yourself liking the switch you least though you would hate. Certainly for me the blacks will never be in the grasp again.

I finally retired my ol' faithful Microsoft Multimedia today. Eight years of faithful, if rubber-domed, service. Only dishwashered it once!
Sigh...one day I shall own a board with Cherry Browns, but for now I'm happy with this $19 scissor key. Anyone know if a USB Female to PS/2 Male adapter exists, as the ghosting's pretty bad on this board...? |

PS/2 is not going to resolve your rollover situation. It's a limitation of the keyboard.
You've been using a (non Topre ) rubber dome for 8 years and still cannot justify buying a decent board? At that rate a Cherry MX would outlast your grandchildren.
