Low timings but not low latency. 30ns is the actual CAS latency, which is over 3 times higher than decent memory today. 1600mhz DDR3 @ CAS 7 is more like 8.75ns. 1938MHz CAS 6 is like 6.2ns (fastest I could find on XS forum after like 2 minutes browsing).

PCCG are clearing out all the OCZ ram. I was thinking about getting the XTE, which has now dropped to 200 (started at about 260, then 220)

Do you guys think there is any point in breaking the bank (which I will be doing if I snap this up now) is it that good? or stay away

Not a surprise really.

OCZ are doing extremely well in the SSD market.

Hey guys, if I buy some DDR3 now from OCZ and it has a lifetime warranty then have a problem in say, 3 years, what happens then. How can they replace the module if they have nothing lying around?

Partial voucher would be annoying, lifetime warranty and if they can't fix something then why would I want part-money back, and if its RAM, why give me OCZ-credit since I'll be after new RAM anyways.

I reckon they'll keep a factory open for RMAs and keep some low level stock laying around.
In a couple years, my sticks might be worth some money!

Timings are way off 10-10-10-!

Might see OCZ Vertex 2 sell off too http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...8#post12880918. Would be a nightmare for retailers to deal with explaining why the new Vertex 2 they bought doesn't do rated speeds.

Garido, lifetime warranty is product lifettime, so one product is EOL = no warranty - probably best they do is replace with a different product which may not be same speed or specs from what I've read on ocz forums.

OK so what you're saying is basically 2 things:

1. the ram is rubbish
2. the warranty is useless

that's a relief cos I can't afford it

My understanding of ram timings is pretty small tbh, I thought that the higher the speed (ie 2000mhz or whatever) then the better OC headroom without changing the timings, I guess I got some more reading to do.

pretty close. i'm in the process of RMA'ing a set of Flex II 2000Mhz 8-8-8-24. The rep i've been dealing with has been a really nice guy but the offers made have been piss poor. basically OCZ want to refund cash based on 'market value'. so what was a $500+ product now equates to a $90 refund.

i know that ram prices have fallen through the floor but timings have also blown out. OCZ have also based their refund on newegg and amazon US prices... with the process not closed yet i hope they come back to the table with something a little more exciting than what they have offered so far

Wow that's a crappy outcome! Nearly insultful!

Hope they work out something better for you than that! You're definitely right on the timings tho... They don't make RAM like they used to anymore...

Has a similar experience with some 2x2G 1066 DDR2, tried to get a swap for a 60G Vertex SSD, but apparently "swap" isn't in their dictionary

That is weird, because they offered Yamunsa exactly that trade
