Anyone recommend a phone that isnt a smartphone? I need one for someone that just needs it to make calls and sms people...like u know how phones used to be?

Also need the best plan that lets them actually use it as a phone...

Dont really have a budget for either the phone or contract, but dont would like the plan to be a decent price, considering they dont need data at all on it.

Last thing...its for a girl, so phones that are pink etc "go to the top of the list"

cheers.

Plan has run out and am now due for an upgrade.

I want a phone with a very good camera (for a smartphone) and a high resolution display.

The only real choices I have are the Galaxy SIII / HTC One X or an iPhone 4S.

Given that I will probably end up selling whatever phone I get in around 6 months time when we will probably see the new iPhone and possibly some Apollo (WP8) devices. I want something that will still be worth something at that time.

I love WP7.5 but given that I want something with a high resolution screen, I have to either go Android or back to iOS. In an ideal world, something like the SIII running Mango would be a no brainer but something like this cannot exist due to Microsoft's limitations.

As an iPhone 4 owner, my opinion is that you should make the move to the Galaxy S III if you genuinely want to make a move to the Android operating system.

If you're indifferent to iOS/Android, then I would wait for the next iPhone/Nexus as the iPhone 4 is still a decent handset.

But in the end, it'll probably depend on your budget and desire. As for myself, I am personally tempted to drop $400 or so on a Galaxy Nexus now to try out Android as a 5 month toy before the next iteration of iPhones/Nexus phones. If I was to quit iOS, I don't think there is a better time than now*. The Galaxy S III has just arrived, and there'll be strong ROM/third party support behind it - hopefully for the 4G variant too.

*Unless you're hanging out for a Galaxy S III on Telstra's 4G network OR an Android OS purist.

No one can accurately predict the worth of the iPhone 4S, Galaxy S III or HTC One X in 6 months time. Right now, the Galaxy S III is new to market and I'm sure there's room to move should it want to compete with the One X on price. In 6 months, there'll be fresh rumours/new release of (probably) the next Nexus phone(s), the next iPhone and so on. Either way you're going to lose money.

At the moment, I think that the One X or iPhone 4S would lose the 'less' amount of money given the Galaxy S III is new to market and should steadily decrease if it follows a pattern similar to the HTC One X and Galaxy Nexus (that have dropped like a rock in terms price since release).

For the camera, I think the GS III and iPhone 4S are a bit better than the HOX.

In summary, my thoughts are:

Get the iPhone 4S if you have an affinity towards iOS, Apple or smaller devices.
Otherwise, get the Galaxy S III. It has a good camera and high resolution display. If PenTile bothers you, then consider the HTC One X.
Purchase any of the above phones with zero expectations of exceptionally high resale value.

Wait for WP8, especially if current gen isn't going to get it.

I'm after a phone that is around $100
I was thinking a 3gs, but as they are an old phone and I use it when riding downhill, and in my pockets, phones tend to suffer a bit of abuse. Therefore can you suggest a dumbphone that meets the following?
  • Compatible on All Networks
  • Preferably threaded messaging
  • A way to play music, and a 3.5mm headphone jack
  • A web browser that can handle mobile facebook and mobile google for light use.

Thanks in advance.

Currently still on my iphone 4, but contract runs out in about a month. Really liking the look of the SG3, do you guys reckon it's worth holding out for the Iphone 5? Or make the jump to the SG3 now?

Do you need a new phone now? If not, you can wait and check out which one suits your needs better. If the iphone 5 is pretty much a iphone 4s but larger and some gimmicky features, try the SG3 out. If it's mind blowing and omg the best thing since the rise of religion, then go for it.

Personally, i'd go GS3 when contract finishes, but that's me because I prefer the android interface over the apple one. But it's all personal preference.

Default Which phone ?

Looking for a new phone, my first smart phone. Got a basic Nokia atm.

Thinking I should go on a 29$ plan. But which phone ? Nokia Lumia 710, SG2 or other.

I want a fast phone, not too sluggish. Not annoying to use.
I'll mainly use it for phone, internet and maybe some games.

I want a tablet too probably something that can play better games than the phone. Probably the Asus T Pad TF300T. I tried a friends ipad 2, fruit ninja seems overrated.

Recommendations ?

Thanks in advance,

guppy

Should I buy from Kogan or Mobicity? Is there any difference in terms of service, things I should watch out for, bad experiences, good, etc? (EG: "I bought from X and they sent the wrong phone, then claimed they didn't fuck up and took weeks to get it sorted," "I bought from Y, took three weeks to ship even though they said they 'had' stock", etc, etc.)

And, no, I'd rather not buy from HK or Singapore - I'd like local warranty.

Am looking to spend $200-300 on a phone, and even though it's a bit old, the Sony Xperia Arc S seems to fit the bill. Am not looking to live my life through this phone, don't mind that it doesn't come with ICS out of the box (easily upgraded). Probably won't be using it for games, or film, or media, or anything like that.

I figure an older high-end phone would be better than a new-released lower-mid-range one.

Ok I'm currently using a iPhone 3GS, out of contract for the last couple of months, I have been holding out for the iPhone 5... but looking at the new Telstra plans, they are not looking appealing especially since the drop in data...

I've been looking at switching to Amaysim... now they don't have phone plans and you have to supply your own phone, so I would have to buy outright (or keep using my old iPhone 3GS... unlikely :P)

So I was thinking that if I'm going to buy outright, maybe I should consider an Android phone as they tend to be cheaper and also drop in price compared to the iPhone...

So I was thinking maybe the Samsung S3 but I'm not sure, I haven't used a Android device for any serious length of time, only played with them from mates, or in phone shops... so I'm not sure whether I would enjoy the switch from iOS or not... I'm also in the Apple world having a MacBook Pro, iPad 2, Apple TV and my wife has an iPhone 4... So I'm just unsure how well it would mesh with my Apple gear...

I think from looking at my apps on my iPhone now and checking with a colleague most if not all of the apps I have currently in use are available on Android... the paid apps I tend to use on my iPad...

The other thing is in my car I have a Pioneer CD player which I have an iPod adaptor with which allows me to connect my iPhone to the CD player and it will allow me to control the iPhone (next, play, pause, previous, rewind, fast-forward, etc) and then I can unplug my iPhone and continue listening from where I was listening in the car... (i.e it talks via the iTunes app not directly accessing the music as if its a USB drive...) so I'm unsure if there is any car audio equipment that supports android?
