Best PC maintenance program

What is generally considered the best program to keep the PC running well?

eg, Tuneup Utilities, is this a safe program to use and/or are there better programs available?

I don't know that anybody really uses these types of programs anymore. I think there might be some value in using CCCleaner to uninstall programs but that's about it. Run disc cleanup from time to time if disc space is at a premium.

Well, I like Auslogics Disk Defrag, but there are plenty of others that work just fine - even the basic Windows defrag.

And I always have CCleaner installed.

Other than that, apart from tweaking Windows to my liking (as I always have), there's nothing that I feel it needs, nowadays. Win7 must really piss some app creators off.

I use auslogic's defrag as well, it's a bit faster than the windows defragger for the most part.

I too am like the others in this thread and don't really bother with any other 'maintenance' tools either.

The only maintenance app I use is Diskeeper because it defrags HDDs while the PC is idling.

There is no "best" maintenance program. Products like spybot and ccleaner are used primarily to remove problems and leftover registry entries & junk files from uninstalled apps... as the saying goes, prevention is better than a cure

just try to avoid installing every piece of bloated software you find.

I refuse to install anything on my games machine unless it's essential to play games, it keeps my Win7 install as lean as possible.

I used Tuneup Utilities 2012 and Auslogics speedboost in conjunction to remove shit processes and speed things up.

I then install Diskeeper for defragging etc, best defrag program to my know, especially for SSD's.

AV i ussually use eset, but i think microsofts free version is fine.

ASC5, have been using it for quite a while and don't have an issue with it. The free version is hardly limited compared to the pro, just a few features (that are desirable, but hardly needed...) not there.

None - The best thing to maintain your computer is to not load heaps of bloatware and shit on it.

Install only what you need. Do only what you need to on it and it will last much longer than a PC full of useless programs, addons etc..

things to completely avoid.

- Browser Add ons (Google Toolbars, Hotbar search etc..)
- Desktop Widgets
- More than 1 Anti Virus
- Anti virus that has more than you need. I.e. Firewall, PC Guard, Parental Controls, Malware Guard, HDD protect, PC tune, blah blah blah. Want an anti virus? Get exactly that...
- Programs that run in the background when you don't need them. (Not sure what is? you can check in msconfig)

Seriously, those "maintenance" add more bloat and bog to the system than what there was in the first place. Those sorts of software are what creates problems in the first place. As others have pointed, with Windows systems all you really need to do is defrag the hard drive(s) because NTFS is terrible at spreading out data across the drive, which is why defragging is required in the first place.

Defrag HDD's every couple of months and monitor msconfig startup//services? Run a decent anti-virus. Microsoft Security Center has been doing a great job for me the past couple years.
Also CCleaner registry clean after uninstalling//installing new or updated programs.

I used Avira AV free edition 2012, USB Risk Security and Ccleaner, and my pc is going +1

Never have and never will. I think they are largely totally unecessary unless you are installing vast amounts of errr, rubbish.
