What peoples thoughts are of this.. I want to get my wife a data plan for her ipad 2.
Im having trouble finding speeds for the virgin mobile data plans. Eg, people using telstra seem to get 3.6 - 5.8mbps on speedtest and stuff like that.
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1640832

Im looking at either
Telstra prepaid 12gb $150 (365 day expiry)
Virgin prepaid 10gb $99 (365 day expiry)

Telstra every time. Virgin is on Optus' unreliable and frequently poor-performing network.

With an iPhone on Optus and an iPad on Telstra, the iPad is the only one which consistently gets signal and decent network performance.

+1 Telstra. I receive SMS texts a minute or so faster on my iPad than mobile which is on 3 (terrible).

Hot damn, they do 365 day expiry now? 12gb?

Might upgrade to a 3G / 4G iPad for the next one... Save the hassle of tethering / untethering to my phone and draining the battery all the time.

Yeah, it's fantastic. $150 a year, never have to worry about credit again. Last year when I did it, even streaming video from home using Air Video plus the normal stuff, I clocked up about 8 gig for the year.

Fan-tiddly-tastic!

But the iPad doesn't have SMS capability?

It has iMessage capabilities. iOS 5.0+ offers iMessage. It uses 'data' (3G or WiFi) to send a message. You can send/receive a sms to other iOS devices. You generally use 1 account to send any message to anyone else as long as your iOS device is registered with the same iTunes account.

Yes, I'm fully aware of what it is and how it works, but the post I quoted specifically said SMS, which is why I queried it.

I went with this

Seems pretty good actually. In general, you really want to protect the corners.

If anyone is interested in getting a case from DODOCASE
I've recently made a purchase which they gave me a code that gives 10% discount (purchases above $50, which is the cost of pretty much anything they offer).

Only valid for one person.....(Offer expires in 8 days)
Code: C120618-4FCVALP
(Apply it on the checkout)
