The only issue I had was playing blu-ray rips over wireless. Once I connected the PC to the network via cable it was a lot happier and very awesome. Had mine for a few weeks now and definitely glad that I've got it.

Seems that it's the end of the line for Boxee as we know it:

Quote:
Today we announced a new device, Boxee TV, that will be available exclusively in the US this November. It brings together Live TV, Internet Apps and a first-of-its-kind Cloud DVR. The new device is running a new chipset from Broadcom and software that we wrote from the ground up.

At the same time, we are also working to release a separate update to the Boxee Box to update the Flash player and fix some key bugs. After this update the Boxee Box will go into maintenance mode. We will discontinue its distribution and will not be releasing any additional major updates.
So... no more updates, no more units to purchase. Support will remain but that's about it.

...and to think I only picked up a Boxee a few months ago

Well thing that annoys me most about boxee is they been focused on making money. For example because based on XBMC they removed some code which would allowed people to use HDhomerun devices, Until recently they added their own code for a partners device only

boxee sucks, don't get it. doesn't even run 3TB hdds and it's one of the most expensive media players out there. we ended up getting a WD TV Live, now my boxee just collects dust. they promised a firmware update over 2 years ago but still nothing.

Apparently Boxee took the post down after a couple of days. However, here is the content of it:

Quote:
To our Community of Boxee Box Owners
By Andrew Kippen

Based on this month’s earlier announcement, many have asked us what that means for the original Boxee Box. We’re here to give you an update on what you can expect moving forward as a Boxee Box owner.

First – The Boxee Box will continue to work exactly as it has for the past two years – you’ll be able to login, use the apps, use the web browser, download artwork for video files, all of the key back-end that powers the Boxee Box will remain up and running for the foreseeable future.

Second – we will be releasing an updated Flash player for Boxee in the next few months. It should improve the browser experience and add some important content back to the TV show library. We will post an update in November which will let you know when to expect the release of the updated Flash player.

Third – Netflix will not be available on Boxee Boxes outside the USA and Canada.
Netflix requires version 3.1 or later of their application outside the USA and Canada. The Boxee Box runs version 3.0.

Unfortunately, Intel no longer supports this chipset for consumer products and the version of the Intel firmware for the Boxee Box cannot run version 3.1. We would have loved to enable this for users in the UK, Brazil, Sweden, Denmark, etc. but technically speaking it’s simply not possible.

Fourth – the Boxee Box will still be supported. D-Link and Boxee have our regular support teams working around the clock to answer any questions that come up. The forums and support sites are still up and full of answers to basic and advanced questions. We will continue to do our best to clearly resolve issues in those venues.

Again – we thank you for being an early Boxee supporter and hope you continue to love your Boxee Box.

Cheers,
Team Boxee

Along the lines of the above posts, it appears no more updates for the Boxee Box as it is phase out in lieu of the BoxeeTV

http://www.slashgear.com/boxee-box-u...rely-16252079/

Bit sad as it's been a near-perfect little workhorse for me. But I suppose, if it ain't broke, I have no need to replace it.

(Ironically, the Squeezebox Touch sitting next to it has been discontinued too )
