Default Cooper's 150th Birthday celebrations

Just back from Adelaide and the start of Cooper's 150th birthday celebrations. Attended a shareholder dinner at the Adelaide Convention Centre, on Friday, and tasted the 150th celebration brew.

Very nice with US, NZ and Australian hops giving a light lager finish. This beer should start appearing in shops very soon, worth a look.

Lucky shareholders were presented with one of 300 Coopers 150th celebration magnums (mine is numbered 6).

Great night and a great beer. Go Coopers

It has been in bottle-shops here in Adelaide for over a week.

I'm still undecided re: it:

Not quite sure what I think of it tbh, it's quite similar to the Pale Ale (although I'd like to taste it side-by-side), the yeast is apparently the same and on an initial sniff you get the same kinda nose out of it.
Definitely requires more 'research' before I make my mind up.

In short, if you like Pales, then give this a try.
I'd love to see Coopers be more adventurous, I think they have the customer good-will (esp. locally), to experiment more even if some of what they release ultimately flops.

But listening to this recent podcast with Dr. Tim it seems their operation is now simply too large for it to be suitably agile to accommodate low-volume seasonal releases.

It's fairly smoky/woody for a pale ale. Reminds me of JS Amber.

Coopers is certainly a large operation now. Their recent purchase of a "recession buster", aka the United States biggest home brew supplier (Mr Beer), should be interesting.

They also brew Sapporo here for the Japanese parent company, along with other distribution arms.

I would not be surprised to see them produce celebration ales for various projects in the future.

I had it on tap a week or so ago. Reminiscent of a Fat Yak Pale Ale.

It's not bad, though I can't see myself replacing Dark Ale with the Celebration Ale...

I'm happy to drink to Coopers 150th, in fact I'd have one now if I had a Coopers in the house : (

It's one of the few brew companies where I consistently love their products.

All my local bottleshops (that arent owned by woolworths or coles, anyway) have it. Archive's got it on tap.

I presume a few other places have it on tap as well. I'm no longer working in a place that has a relationship with premium beverages or I'd ask my rep for you. but seriously, this isnt a small batch thing, it'll be everywhere that has rotating taps and a relationship with coopers/premium beverages.

I havent checked whether the woolworths/coles behemoths (dans/1st) have it, but anecdotally one gathers coopers is pretty pissed with them for pricedumping vintage at below wholesale atm, so it might well be they dont.

I had a couple of celebration ales and enjoyed them. That said, I am reasonably fond of a 'hoppy' ale... the fruity/nutty taste reminded me a bit of some of Squire's brews. It's not for everyone - several of my companions expressed a sense of 'meh' about it.

It's very different to Coopers' usual style. I went back to Pale on tap shortly after.

I'd love to try the celebration from a keg, any adelaidians care to name a CBD pub with it?

Mine was shipped today!

It's going to go well with my Oct-98 Extra Strong Vintage Ale.

best review so far, is that it was a celebration for everyone but the hop farmer.
