Yeah I'm going to stick to downloading one release straight off the website each update.

Does anyone have a problem where the sound card just randomly drops quality. Like it seems to got to a lower bit rate and sounds horrible, not that it sounds good normally.

You don't need to hope, it already is.

I don't get this but I do have the software dropping a setting for some reason. Seems to always want to turn off the "Full Range Speakers" settings

I fixed my problem by changing the pci-express slot I had it in. Format and now I have no problems.

In case you haven't spotted it already, Mr C, there's a new set of drivers floating around on the MS Updater again. They're being labelled as June drivers, with a July 17 release.

No idea what they change, though, so I guess I'll have to play around a bit and see what happens.

Ah yep I see it, thanks Thalyn. Bit reluctant to install them as I'm a bit paranoid with creative stuff......if it's working I like to leave it, as you can screw things up sometimes

Haha I hear that.

Still, I'll give most things a go (software-wise, anyway). So far I haven't noticed anything worth mentioning - good or bad. Which I guess makes it even less worth taking a punt.

Didn't want to create a new thread since it's on topic, but

http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/16/c...-z-soundcards/

The Sound Blaster ZxR, the Zx and the Z. As you might have guessed, the more letters, the higher up the food chain it is. The flagship ZxR ($249.99) boasts a 127dB SNR, sockets for swappable Op-Amps, 80mW into 600 ohm headphone pre-amp, plus RCA / optical connectivity (via additional daughter board) and an external "ACM" control module for less fiddling around the back of your machine.

Just spotted those myself. Part of me is interested to try one, part of me is annoyed that I've "just" bought two Recon3Ds. I'll probably wind up trying one anyway, since I'm daft like that - anyone want to buy one or a half (there's a story there) Recon3Ds come December?

From what I can see, given the limited information available, these are what the Recon3D should have been at launch. They look to use the same chip, but they appear to be less of a proof-of-concept device and more a final product with some thought behind it. The external DAC (bypassing the Core3D's internal DAC) should placate a lot of the "OMG only 102dB SNR!!" people and the swappable Op-Amps are a nice (albeit unnecessary) touch.

It'll really depend on whether the components used in the top-end one are worth it over the lower ones, and just what that ACR can do, before I decide which way to go. At this point I suspect I'll either be aiming for the very top or the very bottom.

Also looks like their licensing agreement with THX is over. Everything is being labelled as SBX instead of THX now - though I would be surprised if it is actually anything different.

Full press release here.

Well much to my reluctance I tried the windows drivers and as predicted, screwed up my setup....*sigh*.

Spent a bit of time tonight trying to get it back to what I had it.....can't do it
