Is there that much of a difference between Wharfedale 10.1, 10.0 and 10.2? If there isn't, I think I'll pick the cheaper one that I can find.

As for integrated amps, I wonder if this would work: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cambridge...15415d3a9#shId

It certainly would mate, might be overkill unless price isn't the issue.

http://www.caxtonaudio.com.au/

Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers:$299

NAD 316 BEE Intergrated Amp: $399

For example. Also, Grev over at Headphonic forums might sell his brand new Diamond 10.1s to you for a good price. PM him.

Cambridge Audio Azur 340A would be agood budget amp too Manni.

imo, budget amps arent that great of a buy. I'd rather get myself a decent vintage over a modern budget amp anyday.

Cambridge Audio and NAD products are held in quite high regard though. Many of the vintage classics are NAD as well, the 3020 for example.

For the sake of getting a new product with a warranty, and something that will perform very very well, I'd say its worth it.

I have nothing against modern budget amps, just that there are better options if your using lower end speakers (<1000). vintage nad's are awesome, your paying peanuts for really nice sound. The problem with early nads is that they usually develope dry joints, nothing a solder iron cant fix though.

if your going to be playing around with speakers/amps warranty doesnt mean much with you constantly changing gear

(btw i've developed a taste for warmer vintage amps, like those english ones, my opinion might be a bit skewer by that)

Agree if its going to be a hobby. But for a no fuss buy new they are great options!

I love the sleek look of the Cambridges too.

I'm currently at a loss as to what to do with my speaker set up. I currently have a set of microlab Solo6C's plugged directly into my sound card. I am about to be moving to an amp (marantz AR7200) and as the microlabs are active speakers im looking to move to a passive set.

Can anyone recommend a decent set of passive speakers with a nice amount of bass and detail, such as footsteps in games. I'm currently looking at the audioengine P4s, is there anything else i should be looking at?

Wharefedale Diamonds, as a series, have won countless awards and been developed over the past decades (second oldest speaker company in the world?)

So try the Diamon 10.1 maybe.

Jamo have the odd lower end passive too, might be worth a look.

There are thousands of options, but to get a chance to listen to them is a problem, so you're likely limited to the bigger names there.

2.1's (or 2.0's that have enough bass). Price limit of $500.

70% Music - PsyTrance, Korn, Slipknot, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails, Muse, Rush, Chemical Brothers, Infected Mushroom (pre-Shawarma), Satch, Bliss n Eso, The Who, Tool, Powderfinger - and stuff like those.

30% Gaming - FPS/D3/Etc.

Volume just has to be enough for filling a room around my 30in monitor.

I'm coming from a set of Klipsch Pro-Media GMX 2.1's - Bass needs to be comparably tight, less of a gap between Mid and sub would be preferable.

Have ATH-AD900's as an alternate. Also have about $10k of HT Audio in the next room - separate amp/speakers need not apply, nor 2.0's under 4.5in unless they are something special.

I'm thinking Swan M50W's but if there is something else i should be aware of, that would be super.

headphones. i know, i am brilliant, saving you so much time and money just like that.

wharfedale as a brand are not noted for their massive stomping bass. as a maker, well there many models over many generations spanning many years, so making blanket statements seems pointless.

Hm... been reading though here...

Looking for a replacement for my Z-5500s. Nothing is wrong with them (er, not broken I mean!) but just looking for a better audio experience.

I still require 5.1ch though. They are for PC usage, mainly for music/movies and some gaming. I use a Xonar D2X sound card.

Looking at around the $500 range, however if there is something out there for $700 that would be far better, sure, I'll look in to it. But at this stage, what are the suggestions? And yes, has to be 5.1ch.

I can only think of one thing, but would require stepping up to the $1000 plate.
Swan M60 5.1

I have Z-5500 also and i want to upgrade them to Swans, i ditched my 5.1 logitech for my computer for a 2.0 Swan system and couldn't be happier, so i'm really excited to upgrade the Z-5500

If you can stretch your budget a little more to get the Aktimate Minis, you'll be happier. Trust me - I've owned both and ended up selling the A5s once I heard the Aktimates.
