hi everyone, a friends son is after a 15" laptop with some gaming performance, and asked if i could recommend him one.
straight away i sent him a link to the LBO website, and for his budget, i pointed him towards the Clevo W255 Notebook, which is selling for $799 ($898 with win 7) http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/sto...tebook-pc.html it has nvidia GT630M graphics, which is listed as a lower end class 2 graphics chip in the following link. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.63761.0.html i know its not going to be great, but it would surely beat the crap out of his current asus laptop with HD6370M graphics, which is rated low in class 4 graphics. i think the next available Clevo model is the P151EM1B with the GTX660M graphics, but it sells for $1448 including win 7 and is outside his budget. will this GT-630M card be ok for average gaming ??? For similar money (and I haven't looked extensively) I'd look at a GT640M which actually *IS* new Kepler tech and appears to be about 50-60% faster than old rebadged Fermi parts in "GT630M". Though I would prefer a Clevo over an Acer for similar money any day based on rep alone.
8k/9k 3dm06 / 1k 3dm11 will be acceptable for 720p/768 res at medium details.

Doubts about Acer build quality is a biggy but they do make some good stuff. I'd wait for notebookcheck to do a review on an Acer with a 640M though, look at things like operating temps and throttling. Slimline stuff is getting notorious for ineffective cooling, and games show it up if it's going to happen. Nothing kills framerates like an overheating CPU gimped to 1GHz.
