Coming from a D700 I have a whole heap of 16Gig CF cards, but find that I'm only getting 200 shots (or so) from each card. Looking at getting 64GB but in CF form they're so expensive compared to 64GB SD cards (looking at the Sandisk ExtremePro versions).
You guys using CF or SD with you D800's? |

I feel more comfortable using CF cards, but they're so much more expensive than same size/speed SD's...
Guess I'll wait until there's another super sale on BH Photo

Had a chance to do some side-by-side comparisons with my D3s over the weekend.
I'm not sure if its all in my head but the 800E appeared to exhibit quite a lot more noise than the D3s at the same ISO levels, even though the extra dynamic range was clearly visible too when scaled down in LR4. Now it could just be the lenses unable to resolve the image clean enough at that resolution, but I'm talking pro-level lenses here. I know pixel-peeping is relatively pointless but I'm surprised about the noise levels at ISO 1600+...and psychologically I was really hoping for a reason to upgrade so it wasn't a matter of seeing what I wanted to

Your observations are correct. Where did you get the idea that the D800 out performs the D3s noise wise at native resolution?

Didnt expect it to outperform, but thought it would get much closer!

I testedmy 800E with all my lenses using a lens align rig and they all focused perfectly. Some people just can't enjoy a good thing.
I have found that if your shutter speed is too low, your aperture too small (f16) or you aren't carefully with your focus, then it's brought out by the resolution. |
