If anyone can point me in the direction of a good community for this if no one is interested here that would be helpful
Basically I am a Uni student who is currently studying game design, although I am still a first year I am self teaching java in my spare time and mucking around making a game. I've got a fairly rudimentary "Alpha" of your typical 2D space shooter which is fairly common amongst starter projects. While the view point is 2D the game itself is using 3D models, initially cubes, spheres and cylinders. I've grabbed some free 3D models from the net to get rid of the placeholders for the time being but in future iterations of the game I want to add things that I can't use predefined objects for. I'm doing this simply for learning and to have some fun, possibly have a cool game at the end of it. None of this is planned for any sort of commercial use (unless it's totally awesome, but lets face it, first game) and as such I don't plan on paying anyone to do this. If you're learning 3D modeling yourself and need an excuse to keep practicing, or you simply enjoy it and would like to make some simple models with textures on the side then that would be great. If you know of any communities where this might be more appropriate let me know. Either reply here or PM me and I can sort you out with my steam ID / email / whatever works and I'll show you what I have and what I would like to achieve with some pretty basic sketches. Who knows if you're interested we could always make a few, I'd like to try an isometric style game after this (again simple) purely to get some experience working properly in all 3 dimensions. Cheers. |

Let me know what models (and their specs) you need and I'll chuck a few together. Even if you dont use them, or they arent quite right it'll be fun

Sorry for the slow reply, Uni has taken precedence the last few weeks so I intentionally put the game on the back burner till this coming weekend. The 3D modeling software I am using will be blender which is pretty robust with what can and can't be imported.

It's still difficult to do accurate real-world materials, but there's lots of help out there. Im currently modelling a weapon for an rpg im involved in this the hilt (gold) and pummel (diamond), done in blender and cycles.

For anyone interested I'll pop up a link to a rudimentary beta. Got to spend about 4 hours on it today and it feels "gamey" which is nice. Also because I have horrible design skills outside of AutoCAD (sigh) I've whipped up an awesome outline for a title screen that just needs fills etc done on it but I don't know of any applications I could open these in to edit as a picture? If Photoshop does it could I send someone the file and have them send it back in another format? Thanks!
