Default Lost Passport

Hi all,

Lost my passport while in China atm. I have entered China with documents independent of my Australian passport, so I have full documents to leave China at the end of my trip and take the plane to Sydney.

However, since I have lost my Australian passport, I will have troubles at the Sydney terminal. Upon googling, the suggested options are either get a full blown replacement passport (which I won't be able to get in time before I actually leave China), or an emergency passport (which I don't need as I can safely leave China without an Australian passport with a visa).

Any past experiences/advice on what to do? I will ring the relevant authorities tomorrow morning.

The emergency passport is not to leave the country you're in, but to enter the one you're going to.

You should get one of these if your "documents" are not suitable for entry into Australia.

Emergency passport is not for leaving China, it's to enter Australia.

Contact the Australian embassy and the Australian Passport Office https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/Ren...ostStolen.aspx

I had mine stolen whilst I was in Thailand, catch is/was I was flying out in 2 days and couldn't get an emergency passport because the embassy was closed on the weekend.. (fkn useless)

I had my english passport with me that didnt get stolen, so I was going to try and fly out on that and wing it when I got to australia, I had a million and one documents with me proving I was australian because I was on my way back from the UK at the time..

Having said that, Thai immigration wouldn't let me fly out on my english passport because I had flown in and got the visa on my australian passport.. Trying to get information out of Thai immigration over the phone was like getting blood out of a stone so I only found this out when I was at the airport trying to board my plane, yay!

So, in closing.. my story is probably useless, but I would advise you to get an emergency passport if you have time

its about $100 for a lost passport fee, then another $100 for the passport. But it only lasts 3 months.
