Question MBP asking for server password??

I just shared a drive in my main pc which is running Win7 Pro 64bit so I can connect to it via the Macbook Pro. Anyway I went into GO/CONNECT TO SERVER/ I wrote the server details in and it comes up with;

Enter your name and password for the server "htpc"
Connect as Guest
Registered User

Name:
Password:
[] Remember this password in my key chain

Cancel / Connect.

The problem is I don't have a password for this server. I tried my MBP log in password and details that didn't work. I can't find anything on google.

What can I do to connect to the shared drive on the main pc?

That's the thing, I didn't set any username or password cause I don't want a log in screen when using the win pc.

Pretty sure that 7 requires a password to be set against the account before network shares can be used. Even with a password, you can still have 7 login automatically when you turn it on.

Edit: And the username is setup when you install 7 (or when you first turn it on, if it's from Dell or wherever).

I know I had to enter a username I got that part but I never entered a password and even if I did I tried all passwords I use and the macbook won't let me log on.

I just got this;

Access to your account on the server htpc has been denied.

On my last mbp all I did was 1 click and it connected, this one is so annoying.

how are the permissions set on the folder you are trying to access? if it is set to allow everyone then you should just be able to connect as guest.

I have allowed all the permissions and turned off network sharing passwords within network and sharing centre in win 7. MBP still asks me for the server password....

Create a user and give it a password. Then grant that user Admin role.

Have you tried entering no password and just the username?

The way that filesharing works in this situation is that the Mac tries to log in with your MBP user's credentials, it fails, so it asks for ones that the Windows computer knows about. The mac says "hey, I'm KANNIS and here is my password, can I look at the shares please?" and then the Windows PC lets it see them.

You must have a username on your Windows computer, even if the account has no password - just use that and see how you go. You can also allow autologin which means that you bypass the login screen but your account still has a password.

It's pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it.

open run (winkey + r) and type in control userpasswords2 that will open a dialogue box and just untick where it says users must enter a username and password to use this computer, click on then enter the details of your main user. problem solver
