I'm a big fan of Handbrake and Xvid4PSP - it actually does a lot more than Xvid and it is definitely not limited to PSP videos.

I would recommend Media Converter 7.5. It is by far the best i have used. It has presets for just about every mobile device as well as set the amount of cores you wish to use when encoding on the fly.

Can I ask.. Handbrake only converts to MP4 or MKV..

Are these the preferred formats these days for quality / size balance?

What happened to good old AVI and Divx? Are these old school now?

I see, I see..
So MP4 vs MKV... when to use which?

Off topic but I think the argument of hard drives bigger and cheaper is not always right.. Sure disk space is bigger and cheaper but transfer speeds have not increased proportionally.. (until you start talking SSD which is exxy)

I personally use mkv because i believe it gives a better and result for files larger then about 4gb. But that could be me just thinking it does. If anyone could confirm or deny this it would be appreciated. Not many dvd players will support it though, but i have found most decent blueray players will. Just a matter of trial and error til you find what works on your equipment.

MKV and MP4, like AVI are container formats, that you can put almost any video format inside.

It's how you can incorporate softsubs and multiple audio tracks into the one file, and why sometimes you cannot play one MP4 or MKV but you can play another (as the actual codec used, like .H264, may be incompatible with your system).

I've used lots of different ones over the years (including Handbrake) but at the moment I think Freemake is the best by far - so quick & excellent quality...

Just downloaded this on your recommendation..
Very nice interface, very easy to use..
But appears to chew up a heap of CPU and not quite as fast to encode as Handbrake.

Handbrake is good but I can't seem to get the conversion cue to work.

I want it to convert say 5-10 files to MP4 while I'm out and it wont do it. I can only get 1 video at a time to work..

How is it not working? Can you elaborate on the process you go through to set up a queue and attempt to get it started?
