Default laptop: power lights on but no boot

Hi, I have a well travelled Dell D820 laptop that I was using as a media player, running ubuntu and xbmc, for months without issue. It was plugged into its docking station when it shut down. When I power it up, the power light comes on, as does the disk light briefly, then the blue bluetooth light comes on, but nothing comes on the screen and I cannot hear anything either.

I have tried booting from battery alone or directly conencting the power cord instead of through the dock, but nothing happens. No beep or even anything on the screen.

I removed the battery, hard drive and ram, to see if I could at least get a beep or bios screen, but still the same, nothing.

Any tips or is it time for my trusty partner to go to the recycling bin.

Remove battery and power cord, then hold power button down for 10-20 seconds. Replace battery/cord and try it then. May or may not work - I had a similar issue with a laptop and it fixed it.
