I'm also looking to try the PVR version on that older era of hardware, so that's concerning. What video card is in that system you're having issues with? Modern(ish) cards from 8xxx Nvidia series onwards shouldn't be an issue, nor should ATI from 3xxx series (older from both camps work too, but why would you bother?)
To answer your question about versions, at least with the standard playback-only build I think just the general build for all generic systems (non-ION etc) |

Installed Openelec on a usb on the weekend, due to some BSOD problems windows was having, must say I'm quite impressed.
Only a couple dramas, it won't update all my eps. If I try to update the library, it jsut skips over the eps like it can't talk to the tvdb. Never a drama on windows. Also, menu sounds are missing, not too worried about that, but how do I set XBMC to bitstream instead of PCM? Have enabled the "DD capable receiver" etc in the system settings? HW is an AM3 athlon system with an HD5450. |

Head over to the OpenElec forums, this is a common issue, you need to change the parameters in one of the user config files based on your sound set up, I assume you are doing sound over hdmi? Its a 5 second job, but it was so long since I did it I've forgotten how to.

Haven't solved the bitstreaming issue but every movie I've tried has working sound so not too worried. Only issue I have is lip-sync on some files, although this was present in Win7 XBMC so certainly not an openelec specific issue. Running an athlon/hd5450 box to a Yamaha V663 via HDMI, then into a Samsung D8000 plasma. Any ideas? EDIT: Bitstreaming fine now, will have to keep an eye on the lip-sync issues. Thread is pretty dead but thought I'd ask here.
Having a problem where movies take forever (30 -60seconds) to start from clicking play. Sometimes (usually just after a reboot) they'll start instantly like they should. Currently using 2.0 beta 5 (upgraded to this hoping would fix my problem) but hasn't. Also upgraded what openelec is running off from a cheap USB to a HDD hoping that would help but no dice. TV Shows load instantly (well near enough) so I'm out of ideas. All files are streaming over the ethernet from a Win 7 based PC. |

need more info about it, are you using wireless / ethernet? what type of sharing? smb/ftp/afp/etc...
I have had a similar issue with XBMC and it was quite common which is why i ditched it, never had the issue with openELEC though except for maybe a 5 sec lag on a 30gb MKV file.

Using ethernet (100Mb), smb shares. Never had the issue with xbmc on Win 7, might try going back to Dharma and see if it has the issue.

Could be some how related to the share names? Are the movies and TV shows on the same machine? Try adding the source based on the host machines IP rather than hostname.

TV Shows and Movies are on same machine, but on different USB drives. Both drives top out about 40MB/s for transfer though, virtually no speed difference. I'll have a look at the host name/ip settings though.

Is an SSD overkill for OpenElec?
I recently upgraded my fusion based HTPC with an SSD and graphics card, and moved from a windows based system to OpenElec. Yes, it is very fast and I am happy, but would I be better off using the SSD in one of my laptops / desktop pc's instead and using a thumb drive or standard disk hdd in the htpc to boot off? |

I haven't used OE with an SSD but I'd suggest it'd be more than fast enough on a regular HDD or good flash card.

I boot OpenElec from a USB stick on an Atom based Shuttle and it boots in 10-15 seconds. I reckon an SSD would be a waste.

I actually compared the SSD and the HDD back to back yesterday, and there is a significant difference between the two, enough in my opinion to make the SSD worth the additional money.
As I am running a single seat system, I have elected to go 64GB SSD (OS) with 2x2TB HDDs for storage |

ok so
I LOVE openelec ... the speed and simplicity of it all is amazing. The problem is that i am getting random freezes on my system. A quick google reveals this is not uncommon with some SSD users, but there is no real solution. Any tips/help on this one? |
