ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe Mini ITX Motherboard
Any Ivy cpu (dont know which yet)
Some midrange vid card (maybe a 660 when they come out)
Highpoint 4 port raid with a cluster of 2TB drives
SSD boot drive

How does that all look?

Since you're using an SSD for boot, then I presume it's safe to assume you're not particularly interested in high speed on the RAID array. If you don't already have the raid card, then consider the fact you're using a mini-itx board. If you plan on installing a video card, then where are you going to put the raid card?

This has been working perfectly for me since the post date:

i am very tempted to grab the base model mac mini ($699) as i think it would do everything i need. i then started reading over at the xbmc & whirlpool forums and came up with this. thoughts?? i want to keep the size down to mini itx size.

Case: Antec ISK 300-150 Mini-ITX Case
CPU: AMD A6 3500 Triple Core Fusion
Motherboard: ASRock A75M-ITX Motherboard
RAM: G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ (2x2GB) DDR3
HDD: 2.5" 500/750GB

should come in under $500. the only drawback is no wifi (which i need) so i would have to buy an adapter of some sort. also overheating appears to be problem with some so i might need a cpu cooler.

any thoughts or better ideas/options???

cheers
I'm after the same
CPU: AMD A6 3500 Triple Core Fusion
Motherboard: ASRock A75M-ITX Motherboard
No one has the ASRock, case is ok but the front looks is so so.

With the water coolers, do you have to use the fan on the radiator? What's the point of having one if you're going to use a fan anyway (and not going to o/c).

you still need to remove the heat from the radiator (which obviously removes heat from the water) somehow..
you probably can go full passive, or if the heat load was low (like you say, no overclock, or possibly underclocked).
wouldnt expect amazing temps of course, but probably better than a passive heatsink. would be noisier due to the pump of course.

Well, I guess to eliminate the use of 2 fans, perhaps you can use the rad fan to cool the rad and also extract the hot air from the case and not use the fans which usually come with the case (depending on the case). I didn't think that something like the AMD 3500 FM1 would generate much heat as I would mainly use it for watching tv or 1080p content.

Just going by on what's on PCCG, the Corsair Hydro Series H40, H60, H70, Antec KUHLER H2O 620 CPU Cooler, Intel RTS2011LC Liquid Cooling System which are all under $100 look like the same thing.

all made by asetek.
same goes for the upcoming Tt and the zalman one (not sure if available locally, yet at least)
probably more to add to that list.. including the amd and intel branded watercoolers etc

Oh dear, so where do I start? It would be more likely for a Silverstone SG06 with a AMD 3500.

Why bother when a good heat pipe air cooler will keep your CPU just as cool and can also be used passive, that's what I do using an AXP-140
