Default Docking stations for Macbooks? OUtput to 2 screens from Air?

My wife has an iMac 2009 which we thinking of upgrading - our son will get the iMac and she will get something new. She uses it with a dual monitor/second monitor.

Are there docking stations for Macbooks?

It would be nice to be able get her a Macbook Air and then have that dock to 2 x dell monitors and a keyboard and mouse.

How could I do this without a dock?

USB hub for the KB and mouse easy but the 2 monitors? Also could the Macbook Air output to two screens?

How could I output to two screens from a MB Air or Pro?

Could I do it with the lid closed?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

I been looking for a similar solution but for macbook pro.

Don't seem to be many options out there unless you want to pay $2000+ for 2 apple displays....

if you bothered to check, henge docks doesn't actually give you 2 display ports like say a Dell dock. it just replicates whatever port you already have so you can easily detach cables.

Grab a retina MBP - HDMI and 2 Thunderbolt ports means three monitors is supported.

4 monitors if you daisychain with thunderbolt, although 4 external monitors shuts the internal monitor down i beleive
