cat seems sick?

Before you ask, i plan to take her to the vets tomorrow while i have the day off

My cat has been rolling around on the floor for a few minutes at a time before getting up and acting normal. She also seems to be leaking some clear fluid from her privates during these 'episodes' and she meows quite loudly while it's happening. She seems to be in quite a bit of pain

Any ideas what this could be? She doesn't have fleas or worms of any kind as she has been regularly wormed. I gave her extra just in case when this started happening but it's only gotten worse

She's about 16 mths old and has had a litter about 4 months ago

I'm not a vet.

Have you seen her do a wee? If not, follow her about and make sure she can wee. If she's not able to wee, don't wait until tomorrow, get her to a vet straight away. If she's getting up and acting normal it doesn't sound like her urinary tract is blocked, but if it was, it's very serious.

Otherwise, she could be on heat?

no shes peeing OK it seems

99% of the time she is friendly and happy just every now and then maybe twice a day for the last couple of days she's been doing that rolling around thing

and I can't afford a vet at this time of night

Considering you mentioned she's not desexed, this sounds a lot like she's just in heat

If she's eating/drinking and going to the toilet fine (ones and two's, check for discoloration or blood just to be safe) then she probably isn't too distressed and you should be fine waiting til tomorrow for a vet.

Vet. Can cats get pyometra like dogs can? If so, if that's what it is it could kill her.

You can't afford to take her to the vet but you can afford to get her knocked up.

Desex her while you're there and stop adding to the tens of thousands of cats and kittens killed every year.

Melza, he said in the OP that he/she is taking her to the vet today, the issue raised was whether it was an emergency situation that needed immediate attention and couldn't wait overnight. It was an emergency vet he was saying he couldn't afford.

vet says she's fine, just in heat. Have got the cat booked in to get spayed

seemed somewhat incompetent :/ hope she's right

Well, all I know is that when a horse is in heat, it oozes and pulsates (ridden behind one) so it's not too much of a stretch to think that a cat is similar?

Anyway, all sorted, and good that she is getting "done". I'm surprised that they didn't do it before the shelter gave her to you. It's more or less standard practice now, that they only put up pets for adoption after they've been done.

Incompetent eh? I would suggest that they were spot on with the diagnosis. Get the cat desexed tomorrow. You haven't said if you let the cat outside or not (I would presume you do), but keep it locked up whilst you are waiting to desex it so she doesn't get pregnant.

It is strange that a shelter would send out an undesexed cat - pretty terrible actually. They must want to "stay in business". I would question whether they are a real welfare agency or another little bullshit "boutique" shelter.

Don't ever just give her extra medication again in the future. It is a dangerous practice.

I probably shouldn't have used the word shelter, my ex gf's mum takes in animals regularly and I was given it knowing it needed desexing. I don't think she knew it was preggas as that didn't become obvious til at least a month after I got her. She is indoor and has been since I got her

One of the kittens got worms at a really early stage and upon taking it to the emergency vet in newcastle they gave it a double (kitten) dose of the "allwormer" worming paste. I remember one of them saying they can't really O.D. on it unless you go ballistic so i think its fair to assume it can't harm my adult cat to have a bit extra. I appreciate the concern though and i wouldn't have done it otherwise

EDIT: apparently it's hit and miss with the allwormer paste so I guess it's not very 'strong'

Oh, thanks, that explains it. One of my girls had enlarged nipples when I got her, I don't know whether she'd just had babies or they'd spayed her while she was pregnant, but I know they don't hand over any animal until it's done (other than little kittens, and you have to come back when they are the right age to get done, the fee is still paid when you get the kitten).

NSW must be a bit different... RSPCA will have all immunizations done, de-wormed and flead for the month and will de-sex. But kittens from them cost $200ish IIRC when my sister got one. If you get an animal from the pound however, it comes as is, de-sexed or not, vaccinated or not
