Quite a strange day for me.
On Saturday I photographed a wonderful couples wedding. They had planned on getting married later this year or early next year, but sadly the grooms mother was diagnosed with cancer. They moved the wedding forward to ensure his Mum was able to be there for their big day. On the day the mother, although she was in a wheelchair, looked absolutely gorgeous. Her hair was done, her makeup looked great, she had the oxygen tubes, but her overall vibrancy hid those. She had a glass of wine (or 2) with her son and new daughter and we got some great photo's of them all. I received a text today (Wednesday) from them that she passed away on Tuesday. I feel mixed emotions, obviously I am saddened at the loss of a person who seemed to be a very kind hearted and lovely lady, but I feel very privileged and proud to have had the opportunity to photograph her and her family. The text from the bride informing me also mentioned the power of photo's and how happy they were to have got some of her looking so proud and happy at her sons wedding. I just wanted to share. I guess it is important to never let a photo opportunity go by. I hope my images for them provide a wonderful memory for years and years to come. RIP Joce. It was a pleasure to have met you. |

Damn right. I had the same experience 2 years go where I got to shoot a rushed wedding cause one of the dads got cancer and was on his way.
He had to force the smiles as he was in a lot of pain. When he passed, they used the photo I took for the funeral, as later I found he hates photos and rarely smiles in them.

wow, I'm glad they were able to have the wedding in time.
you should feel good that you've played such an important part in their lives.

It's pretty amazing huh. A bunch of my photos and video were used for a mates funeral and the associated news reports and media when he died in a Motorsport accident last month.
Was a great way to be able to remember Rookie

It's a sad thing, but overall I think it's a positive that you were able to capture shots that they'll all be pleased to remember her by
