http://www.itnews.com.au/News/308924...windows-8.aspx

Chief information officer Andrew Henderson described the rollout as “phase one” of an eventual move to Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 8, as well as Windows Phone 8 for the company's mobile fleet

“We have to move through Windows 7 to get to Windows 8,” Henderson told iTnews.

“What we’re doing is commoditising, reducing some of the complexity, we’re getting to a baseline standard, and from there, to go up.

“If we see Windows 8 come out, and we’re comfortable with it, then why wouldn’t we upgrade and roll that out seamlessly early part of next year.”

Sounds like that guy hasn't used it yet

Rumor is that MS won't sell full retail copies of win 8... Only upgrades. Though full OEM versions should still be sold which were cheaper than retail anyway.

It did get me thinking, why doesn't MS just stop with the 'upgrade' bull and sell only the full version instead of the other way around.

Probably because people installed full versions off the upgrade copy anyway

Sounds like a CIO that has no friggen idea. If ING are just getting off XP now then I can't see them deploying Windows 8 anytime soon. While it should be a smaller technical milestone in terms of getting apps to run the user impact if you can't force a non metro UI with a start button will be huge.

Oh, and anyone who thought Windows 95 was shit is way too young to realise what it was and meant.

Yep. It's missing 2 versions of Windows 95 (there was Win95A, B and C), one version of 98 (Second Edition). It's also only showing Win 3.1, when there was 3.1, 3.11 and Workgroups versions of both of those. Vista should theoretically have a SP1 version as well. Windows ME was a hit and miss affair - I had notebooks that would run ME perfectly and nicely, and refuse to run 98SE. Also Windows 2000 should be included.

And if you include Windows 3.1 and 95, you have to include Windows NT 3.5 and 4.0 as well - they both had workstation versions..

Why let the facts get in the way of a good bagging?
