Shipping for me would be like $20-30 for ems if I bought one of everything.

It's a good store, I've done several purchases from them.

Glad I could save you a potential bomb of cash.

I heard the other day, that nitro as fuel is dieing out, what i hear in 5 years you might well need a permit to even buy the stuff, that is second hand info though, so take from it what you will
No arguments there that brushless can flog nitro, as i said brushless has changed the rc scene in a huge way. But there are aspects to nitro that some people enjoy over electric, in your opinion nitro is dead and huge pain in the arse, but thats only your opinion. Its like vintage, it literally has no chance of competing with todays cars but there are lots of people who buy them. I think it would be sad to see nitro phased out as it simply adds a lot more atmosphere to the racing.

The 5 year and needing a permit wouldnt suprise me, sounds about right for Aus trying to nanny everyone into what the should and shouldnt do. Bunch of no good over paid wastes of oxygen politicians are. Get rid of all of them and we wouldnt need the carbon tax lol.

But yeah as you know, I just want to have some fun outside near gravel and water, nothing competitive.

BTW, are electric buggies safe for water?
depends what you classify as safe. traxxas advertise a lot of their stuff as waterproof, but there are heaps of reports of their esc's failing in water. not to mention that any metal parts will rust if not dried off properly afterwards, especially bearings.

What are your thoughts on this?

Going by the website, it seems pretty good (bad assumption I know).

And it's 300 which isn't too bad
short course buggies are still a relatively uncommon class. ive never driven one, but a guy in my club has a kyosho one and it looks the goods. the turnigy knock off of the kyosho is just about entirely compatible with kyosho parts (some bits are actually stronger/better designed) if its the style youre interested in. its currently in stock at the australian warehouse, is already brushless and is less than half the price

Brushless / lipo combos can be insanely fast but you need to compare the same style of car for it to be a rational argument. The 1/8th lipo buggies are insanely fast though and they can and will easily take on the nitro counterparts, but for me personally i enjoy the smell / sound and complexity that comes with nitro, i thouroughly enjoy having to tune and work with the motors, it can be very frustrating though lol. I have the 1/10th electric for the simpler and easier (sometimes) fun.
apples with apples of course. brushless can make some ridiculous power and torque. guy whos just joined our club has a brushless hpi 5sc, running a castle setup on 8s. off its head is a nice way of putting it, and thats comparing it to 2 stroke. has the potential to run 12s if hes ever crazy enough. only thing that petrol has over it is run time.

as for 1/8 scale nitro vs electric, brushless + 6s batteries is pretty hard to beat. sure you can get very fast nitro motors, but they are hideously expensive and then you have to tune them, and there is the smell and sound, which gets old quick.

As i said its personal opinion and preference, personally i love the nitro smell and noise.

I have no idea what short course is haha, but that link you sent me says it needs a battery and a radio receiver or something?

I get confused because I don't know which products are compatible with which.
On the bottom it has these products..

Hobby King GT-2 2.4Ghz 2Ch Tx & Rx
Combo Price: $14.95

ZIPPY Flightmax 4000mAh 2S1P 30C hardcase pack (AUS Warehouse)
Combo Price: $19.48

That is a sct. And no, it's not a slash clone before anyone dismisses it. Put your glasses on and have a better look.

the main types of off road vehicle you will encouter are short course truck (sct for short, in 2wd and 4wd), buggy (in 2wd and 4wd), truggy (4wd), stadium truck (2wd) and monster truck (2wd and 4wd). google them for pictures.

short course buggy like i said earlier is still rather uncommon, its a hybrid of a short course truck and a buggy.

as for whats compatible, that gt-2 transmitter and receiver is ok for a beginner, but its rather basic. the gt3b is a much better controller for entry level.

the vehicle i linked you too will work with just about any 2 cell (2s) lipo battery, just check the dimensions of the battery tray (188x27x49mm) and find the largest battery that fits

my advice would be to try and get everything from the australian warehouse. the international warehouse is usually cheaper, but takes foreeeeeever to post anything, and postage itself costs you a fair bit, especially for an entire vehicle.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=25275 those batteries are fantastic for the price, and this is a great charger http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

it will need a power supply though, its simple to convert an old computer psu, or you can charge it off a car battery (or any other 12v source that can put out at least 5a)

I'm looking for an RC car for my son, since he's not very old I'm looking only to spend around $200 on it at the moment.

I was thinking of either this for electric

Or this for nitro/gas

A couple of questions... when you buy these cars, what else do you need to buy with them? Is it worth getting the electric over anything else? The reason I ask is because this is the last one I had, and it was always a pain in the ass to maintain and get working (though it was ~8 years ago) so I'm wondering if much has changed.

Thanks

If you get that buggy, you'll also need to get some batteries/charger, and a radio (transmitter and receiver). I'd also get a few spare spur/pinion gears (the spurs are supposedly weak), plus the usual (arms and shock towers). You can get the Kyosho spur gears for it, which would be better (it's a clone of a Kyosho Ultima DB).
For batteries, look at the regular Turnigy's or Turnigy Nano-Tech's. For a charger, just get a simple iMax B6 or similar 50-80W charger.
For a radio, just get a FkySky GT3B or something similar.

look up a few posts, i posted the link to a long term review on the turnigy desert buggy. general consensus was that its great, and most kyosho parts fit it.

Yea, thanks heaps for that. I've been looking for years and even Eagle themselves palmed me off to some other Taiwanese outlet that flatly ignored all my emails. No-one I contacted anywhere could tell me where to buy the parts at all.

I also got an email from the seller you linked me to with a *photo* of the actual parcel and EMS receipt letting me know that it's being posted already.
Pretty freaking good service if you ask me! It's costing me about $45 or so all up.

The other place is cancelling the order, so now all I need to do is work out if TA01 front lower suspension arms will fit an FF01 chassis....

Anyone got some spare TA02 arms?

No worries man. Yea, the service is great. They send me a picture of the parcel too. And ems is good as well, it has pretty much perfect tracking, right down to when it gets to your local post office. Not just, sent to Australia, and left at that, it keeps tracking once it's here. I usually get ems stuff to here in Australia in a flat 5 days. If it's posted monday, I get it friday. There's also a good chance they'll include a glossy catalog in your parcel too. I've got about 4 of the things.

For the arms, there is one here:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tamiya-58...item588c3f2c0f

Shame it only half fixes what you want though.

I had a look at manuals, the ta02 arms look nothing like the ff01, and I can't find a manual readily for the ta01 to check.

EDIT: Using the part number supplied in that auction, here's some better ones:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tamiya-50...item3efd83d742

Yea, I was on another forum where one guy reckons TA02 front arms will fit the FF01 (The rear arms look identical). Mine front arms look a bit different to the TA02, but they may be close enough to match. Just gotta find someone with some spare TA02 arms.

I just don't want to pay for alloy arms if they won't end up fitting......

Hey guys

Wondering if anyone can suggest any RC forums in Aus for second hand gear?

Particularly looking for waterproof ESC and water proof brushless motor for a hpi blitz

also after better tires for a HPI Savage Flux XS (this truck is insane - 1/12th scale with 1/10th brushless hpi flux system - run 3S lipo and it will instantly back flip on itself!)
