I decided against buying the more expensive 1080p model because I mainly watch TV and the occasional DVD and my understanding was that most TV stations didn't broadcast in 1920 x 1080 (which I believed was high definition) so I wouldn't notice any better picture if I spent the extra money.
1080p TVs are classed as FullHD.

The commercial HD channels transmit 1080i which your TV deinterlaces to display as 1080p assuming it is FullHD.

People of south east Melbourne, I was in Dick Smith at Springvale today, the guy there said they had stock of about 4 units I think it was. They have it set up good, Avatar in a BluRay player via HDMI. Looks good.

Got the 50" ST50A last week for $1300 at DSE - they only had 1 more left other than the demo unit. GG and HN had none

Absolutely beautiful picture!! Can't wait to wall mount it and connect it all up properly

Got a Raspberry Pi on the way to run Raspbmc

Yep, 50in units seem to be back in stock at several places including Eljo. I really really don't need a TV - writing this on my Pioneer LX509A, which is one of the few TVs I think is better than the ST50A - but I'm strangely tempted.

Ah well, I think it's just that time of the month where I get paid...

Got a 60" ST a few weeks ago for a price that would make you fall over (wife works at Panasonic). Great TV. Just trying to decide which Blu Ray to pair it up with now.

^ such a steal, you'd have cash to throw at an Oppo? Especially with the current models running out very soon for their new replacements

If you wanna talk value for money, then wait until it is borderline half price in January next year. I bought 2011 50ST30 for $850 on 2/1/2012 ffs. Why people even consider buying TVs outside Jan and Feb is beyond me. If you can't avoid it though, so be it.

Anyone able to confirm whether a USB stick would work fine for PVR on these TV's? I was thinking of a 64GB SDXC card but then the USB sticks are so much cheaper. i.e.:

Agreed, I paid $800 for my 50st30, admittedly with an expensive extended warranty which brought the total upto $1000 with a 4 or 5 year warranty.

People still buying these? What prices are you finding for them? A friend of a friend picked one up at JB for nearly a grand flat - at that price they're practically Christmas stocking stuffers.
